AMKIT02 Whirlpool Ice Maker - Instructions

Used online resources to deteremine that it was either the icemaker not telling the valve to open or the valve no opening so ordered both and started with the valve (cheaper part). Reconnected everything in reverse order but left unmounted until sure it worked, turned water on and waited.

There was three screws to remove to unmout the ice maker, and unplug the wire harness,then two to remove to slip in new stripper. All took about 20 mins.

This water valve is slightly different from the original on my older GE refrigerator (i.e., the mounting bracket is larger and oriented differently, thus doesn't fit). To still use the part, I first tried mounting the new valve on my original bracket, but this resulted in a sideways mounting of the solenoid/magnet valve. This orientatio ... Read more n generated a slower and noisier water pumping action (the solenoid/magnet valve is assisted by gravity, so it needs be installed with the top of the solenoid facing up). Then I opted to use the original valve plastic housing and bracket and switch out all rubber seals and gaskets and the enitire solenoid/magnet assembly from the new one. This worked like brand new.

Pried out ice blade bar and removed broken water fill cup and replaced with new one.The whole repair costs $9.52 So I saved $ 190 over the cost of Appliance man visit!
It would have been $150& $50 for visit to replace ice maker unit.

Turn off water supply. Unplug the refridgerator and move so easy access to back. Remember to lower front right wheel to lift rubber foot off ground. Read more ect part. Apply teflon tape to threads and reconnect hoses and turn on water supply to check for leaks. Then connect power supply and re-attach to refridgerator. Use vac to clean back of refridgerator of dust and build up. Move refridgerator into position and raise front right wheel until rubber foot is back on floor. Use vac to clean coils in the front of the refridgerator. Replace grill. I allowed 4 batches to run before using ice. Pretty simple repair.

This was an easy fix. The first thing you need to do is shut off the water to the ice maker. Then unplug refrigerator. Then take the panels off the back of the refrigerator to get to the water valve. Replace the valve with the new one and hook up the hoses again. Make sure to tighten securely so that you do not have any leaks. Put everything back together and plug refrigerator in. Turn on water slowly and check for leaks. If no leaks, push refrigerator back and wait for the ice to begin. Piece of cake!!

Removed old water inlet valve and replaced same with the new one. Installation was easy, parts came quickly, and I now have ice cubes again. Thanks for your help.

1. Removed part from packaging. 2. Cleaned part with foodsafe cleaners. 3. Rinsed thoroughly. 4. Dried thoroughly to prevent frost. 5. Placed bin in freezer. 6. Turned on ice maker. 7. Waited. 8. Discarded first batch to clear supply line. 9. Waited. 10. Enjoyed ice. 11. Provided these inductions.

I have never used the ice maker because I have a well and didn't want to usewell water to make ice. I usually make ice with bottled water.
I decided to try making ice with gravity fed water from a converted water fountain placed on a higher level than the refrigerator, locater in my garage next to the kitchen.
When I looked at ... Read more the rear of the frig. I saw a copper pipe (on the bottom of the frig.) that lead to a valve, with a plastic tube that went to the freezer. I didn't think that the gravity fed water could go down to the bottom and return to the freezer at the top, so I cut the plastic tube, and fed the water directly to the ice maker.
I only put a small amount of water in my water source because I wasn't shure what would happen. The water filled the tray and the rest of the water went to the container that catches the ice.
I did get one tray of ice. I later found that the valve that the copper pipe went to, has a 7 minute timer that only allows a small amount of water to pass.
My next effort will be to connect to the copper pipe and see if it will allow the gravity fed water to rise to the ice maker. Wish me luck

real easy to install and it works fine. However, the problem was more complicated. The circuitry on the ice maker on the back side of where the gear that rotates the harvesting fingers had places that were not making contact. Had to remove the ice-maker (also easier than trying to work inside the freezer letting all the cold air out). A few mounting screws and an electrical connection in the back. In order to to move this cover out, after removing the screws (the obvious), you'll need needle nose pliers to ever so slightly squeeze the plastic clips together that hold the plastic movable bracket and the metal ice level arm/switch, so it will pop out. Once you have room to put the ice stripper in, it should just all snap back together, then proceed in reverse to put it all back together.

Sorry for delay in writing. Part I ordered arrived two days ago and it was exactly what I needed. Knowing that there will be problems even with the smallest job I procrastinated starting. Read more llenge was reassembling the unit. Not hard for an experienced repairman but a challenge for layman. Everything is thing is back to gether now and power on cooling down the refrigerator. Won't know how successful it was until turn on water and ice is formed. If it works this saved $75 just to get a Sears repairman to come out and tell me what would be needed to fix the refrigerator and $1,000 if I had to buy a new refrigerator. Took ice maker out all together we removed 4 to 5 screws had to remove axel to get the broken piece out and new one in my husband said it was easy in and out in about 15 minutes saved about 150. 00 Thanks partslect

Removed fill tube and replaced it with new.

took off the ice maker, unscrewed the body, replace icemaker shut-off arm, water fill cup & bearing, reconnected the unit & have ice now, Thank you PartSelect
