99538 (1988) Kenmore Range - Instructions

The repair was easy. I unplugged the stove, removed back panel, pulled knob and removed 2 screws to remove switch. Unplugged old switch, plugged in new one and installed the 2 screws for switch. Had to snap off stem for new switch to fit knob (easily done with pliers with provided notch). Put knob and back panel back on. Total time, maybe ... Read more 20 minutes.

Watched video & did just guy in video did. Very easy job & the burner works like new.

Pulled range out from wall, unplugged AC, unplugged infinite switch, plugged in new switch, broke off end of stem, plugged AC in put range back and tested.

Removed 2 screws, cut the wires, pulled the part out that the element plugs into. Replaced the old part with the new one and put the screws back in to hold it, reconnected the wires and plugged in the element. Turned stove on and Valaaaa! It was fixed in 10 minutes! I cut the power to the circuit. Removed the burner and then unscrewed the old aluminum plate attached to the range top cover. Opened the topcover to access the wires. I cut the two wires being sure that I left enough length. I then slipped the two new wires with the brass contacts into the new black plastic holder until it locked ... Read more . Reattached the new metal plate to the range cover, fed the wires through and snapped the new plastic holder into the aluminum plate. Secured wire ends with the ceramic wire nuts. Total time about 30 minutes.

Drilled a pilot hole with a 1/16 th drill bit and tapped off screw head.

I disconnected power cord from house current. Removed back panels (2). I then removed round knob on front of range. I then removed the 2 screws holding the switch in place. After doing that, I gently removed the actual switch itself from back of face panel. I then separated the 2 elements of the switch.

I took new replacement ... Read more switch and reinstalled the 2 parts of switch and placed back into hole in face panel. I reinserted the 2 front screws that holds the switch in place. I put the selection knob back on. However, the knob does not fit tightly. The shaft on the switch itself is to long, but the switch works fine. You do not even know that knob sticks out further than before. I plugged unit back into house current and tested range element to see if it works. It did so with no problem. I then replaced rear panels and secured all screws back to their original location and that was all there was to it.

No problem. Was a fast and effective installation.

Replaced switch. Works right now.

was very easy to install I only needed a phillips screwdriver to remove old part and install new one.

Removed block (1 screw) Cut 2 connecting wires. Strip insulation. Attach new block with wire nut(per enclosed instructions) Heat shrink wrap with Lighter. attach block. 10 minutes: problem solved

I had previously partially removed the element and tested with multi-meter to determine that it was not working (open circuit). Repair procedure follows:

Turned off Power
Removed 2 retaining screws
Pulled element out part way
Removed 2 spade connectors supplying power
Replaced element w/new element

removed the plug that had burned up on one of the top burners, replaced it with a new plug purchased from parts select., it was quite easy ,I unpluged stove and raise the top exposing wiring for the burners cut the old plug wiring and connected the wires for the new plug with connectors and shrink tubing supplied in the repair kit easy a ... I read other other posts and followed their advice. Remove the 2 screws holding the element to the back of the oven...gently pull it out about 3" to reveal the connecting wires. I found the needle nose pliers were necessary to detach and reattach the wires. Don't yank! Be aware that the wires have a tendency to want to pull back into ... Read more the back of the oven while they're loose. This was a wall oven and that woul've been a large problem if they they had. Otherwise it was a snap!
