I removed the rear cover from the stove then removed the knob and two screws on the front panel that hold the control in place. I then took the wires off the old control one at a time and placed them on the new control. Then I placed the control in position and tightened the two screws on the front panel, replaced the knob and screwed t he back panel in place.

First I removed the door by lifting it off the hinge assemblies.

Then I removed the drawer to access the spring.

Removed the spring, noting which attachment hole was used.

Removed the hinge assembly with a Phillips screwdriver.

Replacef the unit.

Repeated for the other hinge assembly.

Note: it took longer to find the correct parts in the parts diagrams than it did to replace them.

The Front Glass of the Oven Door Accidentally Got Broken
44 of 57 people found this instruction helpful.
  • James V. from San Antonio, TX
  • Easy
  • 30 - 60 mins
  • Nutdriver, Screw drivers, Socket set, Wrench set
The old glass had shattered so I had to clean up the glass fragments from the door including the track where the replacement glass fits. Also, I removed the complete oven door from the stove so I could lay it on the table and work with it better. I had to purchase a star shaped bit in order to remove the two long screws located on the i nside of the door. These screws hold the door glass assembly to the oven door. After those two screws were removed, I could get to the remaining interior screws which completely removed the door glass frame from the oven. Once the door glass frame was removed, I placed the new glass into the track and reassembled the frame onto the oven door. Then I reattached the oven door to the range. Oh, by the way, the door is removed from the range by flipping a latch (from front to back) on either side of the door. Then you can remove the door. To put the door back on the stove, just insert the pertruding pieces and flip the lever from back to front (reverse order from how it was removed). You may have to jiggle it a couple of times to get it back into the slot correctly.
I had to learn how to do this as I went along.

Damaged oven door gasket
38 of 42 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Michael from Shapleigh, ME
  • Really Easy
  • Less than 15 mins
  • Screw drivers
Very easy repair. The gasket ends are stuffed into slots right below the oven window and the gasket is held in with small wire clips that pop into holes in the door. Just pull the old gasket off, no tools. Install the gasket starting by stuffing one end into the slot mentioned above until the first clip lines up with the first small hole. Then insert each successive clip into the corresponding holes. Then use a slot screwdriver to stuff the other end of the gasket into the second slot. No sweat.

first slide out range from wall and unplug it. then remove the rear panel, it is about 6 or 8 1/4" screws. remove the selector knob on the front of range and then remove the two philips head screws. this is how you remove the burner controller. hold the new controller next to the od one and one by one take the wires off the old one and pu t them on the new one. re-assemble and you are good to go.

Plastic drawer support snapped off
30 of 35 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Jeff Troiano from Sayville, NY
  • Really Easy
  • Less than 15 mins
  • Screw drivers
The repair went very easy. The replacement part was designed differently than the original part. It installed on the rear of the drawer with a screw as the original snapped into the side. This was a bit confusing when researching and looking up the part online.

Old element burned up
29 of 36 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Teri from Simpsonville, SC
  • Really Easy
  • 15 - 30 mins
  • Nutdriver
I started by lifting the front of the stove and slipping a towel under it so it would slide easier and not scratch the floor. The next step was to unplug the stove, after that, I removed the shelves. The next step was to remove the cover plate on the b ack to expose the connection. I removed the old element by pulling the to slide-on conn ections and the two mounting screws. At this point I took the time to clean the oven since the element was not in the way. To install the new element I did the opposite of th removal process.

Part Number PS250750 Inner oven glass

Charles from Sharon MA 1/14/09 has a pretty good description of what needs to be done. My model must be a little different than Charles, so I'll just tell you about the differences.

The locks that hold the hinges in place on the oven had to be flipped DOWN not UP. They are small rectangular metal brackets with a little open " notch" on the top where you can stick a small screwdriver to pry them down.

I found that I DID have to remove the six small screws (three on each hinge) that hold the hinges in place as they also went through both the inner and outer door panels.

Note that the glass assembly has a vented frame. Note that there are vents on the TOP of the frame but not the bottom - i.e. heat rises. Take care not to put the glass assembly in upside down.

1) pull out the stove
2) remove the 7 sheet metal screws holding the back panel on. (the panel that also covers where the cord splits and connects to the oven.
3) Find the small plastic connector located in the middle of the back of the range and unplug it.
4) open the front of the oven and remove the one screw holding in the oven temp sensor.
5) replace the sensor and make sure to "feed" the new cord through as best you can.
6) I had to dig through the insulation a little bit to find the new wiring harness
7) connect the wiring harness and put the back of the range back on

note: this was very simple to do if you think this might be the problem don't hesitate to handle this one yourself.

bake element cracked and shorted out

First, I made sure the power was turned off at the breaker box so I didn't electrocute myself. Then, I took out the 2 screws that hold the element in place, then pulled it out and unplugged the wires.
I plugged the wires onto the new element, and replaced the screws. My daughter could have done this....

Range door bottom trim got rusty: a lousy design by GE.
24 of 26 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Donald from Delmar, NY
  • Easy
  • 30 - 60 mins
  • Pliers, Screw drivers
I used a screwdriver and pliers. A nut driver would have been helpful. Oven door is removeable for cleaning and maintenance, but it's heavy and awkward. It has to be laid face-side down to disassemble, so have a protected tabletop ready to avoid scratches. Side trim pieces have to come off to get access to bottom trim mounting screws.

The known problem: a short occured between the surface element and the INF switch. After replacing the wire between the surface element and INF switch. The surface indicator light remained on - indicating a power surge/spike. Prior to removing the old INF switch I disconnected the wires from the old switch one at a time and plugged eac h into the new switch terminals. Then I removed the knob from the front of the control panel and the 2 screws holding the old INF switch in place. Removed the old switch and replaced it with the new switch. Reinstalling the 2 screws and the knob. Surface indicator light was no longer illuminated and surface element works fine.
