8ED20Z Whirlpool Refrigerator - Instructions

The broken part was removed and new part installed without any trouble.

Unplug
Remove entire back panel (both chipboard and metal fan grill)
Unscrew both fan mount plate screws - fan won't be able to come out because it is still plugged in
When looking at back of fridge, locate a small plastic box to the immediate left of the condenser. It's a circuit block. Release the metal spring clip hold ... Read more ing the plastic cover in place, and trace the fan wire connections back to the fan. Make a note of which wire is connected to which terminal (1 of the fan wires has white lettering and 1 is just black)
Unplug both fan wire connects from circuit block to release the fan power cable.
Remove the fan mounting plate
Release fan blade clip by pressing fan against motor and unscrewing and remove fan blades
Unscrew motor from brackets - note alignment of motor on brackets
Mount new motor on brackets. Leave plug wire disconnected (replacement motor has a harnessed plug wire)
Connect new plug wire to the circuit block keeping wires connected to the proper terminals
Snake new plug wire behind condenser like the old wire was and run through cable bracket to the back right of the condenser
Plug wire harness into motor and re-mount fan mount plate
Reattach fan blade and secure using blade mount kit
Replace back panels

I followed your instructions , the only thing that was left out was that the freezer has a drain hole that had to be thawed out with a hair dryer,till the water went to the drain pan underneath the ref. your instruction were through enough, that's why I purchased the part from your company, I installed the part 2 days ago and its working ... I slid out the crisper drawer, then lifted out the cracked drawer cover, removed glass panel from it and then replaced the cover with the new part. After installing, I replaced the glass panel in the top and slid in my crisper drawer. It took less than 5 mintues and works perfect!

Removed back cover, noticed the start relay was a Klixon figured it was bad(they don't make a good relay);
Checked voltage going to compressor: 115V;
Checked ohms: C-S-R 4.3-4.2-4.5;
Checked ground: open;

Replaced start relay.
Compressor fired right up when plugged in.

simply removed old motor and replaced new. I'm over 82 and it was hard to get down and up to floor level!! One thing was a little puzeling -that was to insert the right screws which had a nitch in the end of the threds to keep it from loosening- I thought I was spoiling the threds cause I had to use a little pressure to start the screws ... When I took the pan out of the box, it was not the exact same as the one I had. But it fit perfect. The only hard part was the fact that it looked so good I had to clean the entire fridge side. (Smile)

Took out the old one and put in the new one. No tolls required. It did give me the opportunity to clean the back wall of the refrigerator.

Jus took me seconds to replace both items. No problem.

Took off refrigerator door from top hinge and lifted off. A little difficulty getting worn out parts off (needed dremel to drill out worn plastic); replaced with new parts, the screw head holding on the part was starting to be worn as well but still worked. I took off the front cover with the controls. Pulled out the control knobs, unbolted the assembly (which was identical to my replacement part) and proceded to follow the old thermostat tube to the back of the fridge. Very easy. Take panel off and replace motor.. All wires matched fine. Easiest applance repair I've done..

Unplugged the refrigerator and then removed the knobs and face plate inside, by removing the screws. I then removed the screws holding the thermostat and unplugged the Thermostat assembly, and replaced it with the new one, then removed the defrost timer and replaced with the new one. It was so easy I think my wife could have done it!

i had used your web site before and i read several problems that your readers had. i went to the back of the unit, removed the bottom cover and right there the i found the run capacitor and i chaged it. since i had only ordered this part to save money i went back and ordered the Start Device which when i took it off it was completely burn ... Read more ed. the replacement part came labeled with 2 different compressor #, so i picked the one that i had and unpluged each wire. the part may differ from the one that it's in the unit but it worked when i pluged everything back on. it also helps to take a picture of everything before removing the wires in case you have to leave it and come back later. i hope to use this refrigerator another 10 years. thank you all for your help.
