First I dismantled the impellers that drive the wash and drain water to see if they were damaged or clogged - I knew the drain hose was not clogged. It seems you can' remove the wash impeller without breaking it..... at least I couldn't.
Since they were ok [i replaced the wash impeller that I broke], it seemed the only other thing could be the timer switch. I replaced it and all was fine again. It replaces by removing the plastic INSIDE panel of the door and quite easily after that.
