I checked your web site for similar problems. Most were the bimetal defrost thermostat. Some had defrost timer problems. Althought my bimetal thermostat was deformed by the ice I replaced both parts. Had to defrost the freezer which takes most of the time. I removed the nuts that held the motor mount, then removed fan blade, cut the wires, and slid the motor pass the mounts and the coil shroud, Installed motor in reverse order. worked out ok.

The hardest part was taking out original light bulb because screws on shield where hard to unscrew after all this years . The old bulb vent out leaving neck in socket. It took narrow electrical pliers to get neck out .The generic appliance bulb did not fit and had aluminum neck ,not recommended for brass sockets in ovens.Putting new ligh ... Pulled out the refrigerator and removed the two panels from the rear of the refrigerator. Removed the fan held in by four screws and unplugged the connector. Soldered on the original connector, installed the fan to the motor and re-installed the unit into the refrigerator. Then blew out and vaccumed the condenser coils.

Removed rear cover to see non-operating fan - removed three mounting screws on the motor that were a challenge to access. Swapped fan from old motor onto new motor - one threaded nut on the motor shaft. remove frozen food. take back panel off. use hair dryer to dethaw finned part. swapped defrost thermostat.one lead ok, other had to cut ends and wire splice together. replace panel and food. took care of problem, food in fridge stays cold. totally impressed with delivery time. ordered mon here tuesday. awesome..........

I used the original connector from the spent thermostat and waterproofed the connection with a 16g wire nut and electric tape. Works great! In hindsight I would have ordered the part earlier as this is a typical solution to a freezer frosting over. Manual defrost is a pain!

Just as others discribed, removing ice maker, defrosting Freezer, removing freezer basket and shelf, removing the back panel, locating the iced over thermostat. One of the connectors wasn't the same, so I cut off the connector and wire from the old thermostat, spliced the wire and connector to the new one. Used heat shrink to cover the ... Read more splice. Followed advice from some forum posts here to replace Defrost timer and/or bimetal thermostat. First started with the defrost timer, but the freezer frosted over again. Used a screwdriver to pry loose the old switch, swapped wires to the new switch and pushed it into the opening. Took about 2 minutes.

After 4 weeks of calling the appliance people back when they ignored me, only to be told they couldn't find the part, I spent 5 minutes on partselect.com. That's all it took! Part was easy to order, delivered quickly, installation very easy. Just unplug the unit, pop out the old swich using a screwdriver, disconnect and reconnect leads and pop switch back in. Definitely recommend that you can do it too.

Two screws was all that needed to be done. BUT, don't throw away your old handle insert as the new handle doesn't include one and would look funny without it.
