Video makes it look easy. Kenmore refrigerator does not have "groove" along the right hand side of switch that allows for pushing down on release. Used a thin screwdriver to get under to push while holding switch edge with pliers. Kept slipping. Tape sides to avoid scratching inside of refrigerator.

Original gasket became deformed creating bad seal.

  • Stanley from Armona, CA
  • Very Easy
  • Less than 15 mins
Soak new gasket in hot water in bathtub to soften while removing old gasket. No tools required, it was a little difficult pulling old gasket out but once you get it started part way out it will come out real easy. By the time you get the old gasket out the new gasket will be warm and easy to get started into the groove it pops into. Start ing on back (hinged) side is of door, begin pushing new gasket into groove. Work up and down pushing gasket into place working towards the corners and around to the front side of door. Your all done. This is a job I went into a little nervous thinking I might be calling a service man out to fix, but it turned out to be really easy.

Gaskets were deteriorating from use
6 of 6 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Rick from STAMFORD, NY
  • Really Easy
  • 15 - 30 mins
  • Screw drivers
I started with the right door and just pulled the gasket off. I then made sure which gasket was for that door and aligned it with the old gasket to make sure of top and bottom. Then it just pushes in with your thumb. It took about 5 minutes. The left door is a little more complicated. First remove 2 screws that hold the mullion. Gently hi t the bottom of the mullion In an upward motion with the flat of your hand. The mullion comes loose and can just hang by the wires. Remove old gasket and install the new one. Reinstall the mullion and you are done. This one takes about ten minutes. DONE!!

The heavy work is moving the fridge, then take off the lower plans. Use a bowel or cup for screws and the water line connector spacers so you don't loos them.
undo connections holding water line, including the bottom brakes for the solenoid. Reuse the spring around the lower waterline to prevent external wear on the line.
