Oven would not work. Burners worked fine. Igniter would not glow.

It was easy. I removed the guts. Removed the heat deflector (one nut). Then removed the igniter and the cover over the wires in order to unplug the wires so I could work with attaching the new part on top of the counter. Replaced everything and it worked great. When the old igniter did not work, the gas valve would not let the gas int o the oven, Once replaced, you can here the gas flow in and ignite. Repair man wanted $65 to show up and $175 for part and labor. I paid $77 for the part and did it myself. I do not consider myself handy.

Oven would not lite or preheat

• Start by unplugging the unit from the wall.
• Then slide the unit out carefully without damaging the gas line.
• Next remove the lower drawer just under the stove. Pull all of the way out then lift slightly and continue pulling gently. The drawer should slide out with no need for tools.
• Tilt the range backwards toward s the wall allowing enough room to access the back of the range where the gas control is.
• Remove the sheet metal under the stove. There should only be four hex head sheet metal screw holding it in place.
• Look at the gas control, and follow the white wires going up this should show you where the lower igniter for the oven is.
• Remove the igniter 1-2 screws
• Check to make sure you have the correct igniter. The upper and lower are the same. ****The label where my serial # is says that the unit only uses 5 amp igniters however the igniter I pulled out said 2-3 amp… fortunately Parts Select sent me the correct igniter without me knowing the difference when I ordered****
• Replace the old igniter with the new and wire it in per the instructions. **** I had to use butt connectors and part of the old wire because the replacement did not come with the correct connectors to attach to the gas control. It should be ok since it is only 5 amps and under****
• Reassemble the range and replace the drawer.
• Be careful when putting the range back in its place, not to tear the linoleum. I wet down the floor with glass cleaner to make it slick.

Good luck, I may have had it done in less than half an hour but I have a two and a half year old who must help daddy do it all. Takes longer but makes it more fun… Brad.

Remove oven door, just open slighty and pull door up no tools.Take oven draw out.Remove oven floor held by two nuts in rear. You will now see the igniter, remove two screws holding it and the one screw holding the long tube at the front. The best tool I used was 1/4 drive socket set with a 6" ext.I did'nt need a new bracket that came with the part and I cut the old igniter wires and wired in the new one because it had a special connectors. If your are a handy person, its EASY.

took off the door it should be very simple by opening the door just a little bit then pull up the door take out the shellves than take of the bottom of oven usualy there's 2 cap screws in back holding it down then take out the drawer from under the oven & unscrew the bracket that holds the flame pipe from underneath also unscrew the screw from inside the oven the holds the actual flame pipe in front next to the door then unscrew the old igniter from the pipe snip the old wire going out from the igniter & strip it a little & connect the new igniter put on the ceramic cover supplied together with the new igniter connect it back to flame pipe put everything back together you should be done. But make sure the wires are pushed down to underneath as much as you could also when you put back the gas pipe the wire should not be in the way underneath the oven

It took a while to determine the cause of the problem because I was not familiar with gas appliances. After finding the problem I ordered a new igniter. The part was there in two and a half days!! I had it partly apart when the part arrived so it only took about 30 minutes to complete the repair. I would recomend PartsSelect to anyone. I h ave never had parts come that quickly.

I only wish I would have taken the drawer out first to get at the wire connections. Instead I tried to get at them by trying to remove all the layers of sheet metal at the bottom of the oven - to no avail. Once I took the drawer out and saw the connections and bolts to remove that held the igniter/gas diffuser there was no problem. The ne w igniter does not come with the connectors on the ends so I simply cut off enough wire from the old one and used the wire nuts that came with to splice the wires. Simple reconnect and now we're "cookin' with gas" again.

  • Karyn from DURHAM, NH
  • Really Easy
  • Less than 15 mins
Cover the putty knife with tape so you do not scratch the side wall where the switch is located. Slide the knife under the edge of the switch and push in a bit towards the switch and slightly twist to pop the switch out of its hole. Disconnect the wires from the switch and simply plug in the new switch. Push wiring back into the hole and careful push the switch into the hole until it snaps into place.
