4839 - Instructions

I looked up the model number of the Tappan oven on the net, found the part on the PartSelect site, ordered it and it arrived within a few days. The disassembly should have required nothing more than a Phillips head screw driver, unfortunately one of the screws was completely frozen and I managed to strip the Phillips head socket.

The screw was in a very awkward position so I first tried using grip pliers on the edge of the screw - this failed, I then tried grinding a flat spot on either side of the screw circumference and using the flats for gripping - it worked but the screw wouldn't move. Finally, I took a hacksaw blade and cut a slot in the head of the screw. I widened the slot using miniature files and finally made the slot wide enough for a large slot blade screwdriver - this worked. After removing that one screw and maneuvering the broken hinge out of the access hole on the stove front (the break in the hinge was such that this took awhile) the rest of the repair went very quickly.

The oven door was such that I could not see all of the hinge and when the part arrived from PartSelect I thought it was the wrong part. I called your parts return number to ask some questions. The lady who took my call was extremely helpful and we first discussed the part ID, then she showed me how to find a picture of the actual part on your site. After looking at the picture and the diagram I suddenly realized the part was correct - it was just that I thought it was supposed to be installed in a different manner. I'm sorry I didn't remember to get her name because she certainly should be commended for he patience and her assistance. Thanks Again.

I unplugged the stove from the power plug in the wall. There are two screws at the back of the oven to hold the element in place. I removed the two screws. There are wire clamp inserts that attach to the element. Once the element was loose from the back wall of the oven, I gently pulled out the wire clamps. Removed the element. I lai ... Read more d the new element in the bottom of the oven and gently pushed the wire clamps into the new element. Re-attached the screws and put the power back into the wall and I was done. Easy, easy, easy. As for the drip pans, I pulled the element from the plug just under the stove top, cleaned the element and replaced the old drip pans with the new. Slid the element back into the plug and I was done.

Remove drawer. Insert new slide. Install drawer.

I looked for the proper part on this site. I was even able to find a video on how to install the part. It was great to see the step-by-step directions and tools needed. I ordered the part. I used some WD-40 and they were still quite stuck. I learned that by gently going back and forth with the nut driver, rather than just trying to turn in the correct direction, that the screws came out quite easily. I felt so proud to be able to fix my own stove and save money in the process! Very satisfying for a single mom. Couldn't have done it without the video directions.

Turned off power to appliance removed the screws connecting the element. Disconnected the wires from the old element connected the new element replaced the screws and tightened turned power on turned power back on heated oven to be sure it worked. Very simple to do.

Pulled out the old, and replaced. Very simple for a 62 year old woman! I cook a lot, being from the country, and Imwas so excited to get my burners fixed! Should have done it years ago! Thanks!

All I had to do was loosen the screws, pull out electrical hookup on both ends, hookup new heating element to elecric and screw em into place. That's it, super easy and I got the part in 2 day : )

Must say I was dreading going to some parts house that we have in our town in bad area, and searching on dusty shelves for what I needed...am so glad I found you!!

The simplest repair ever! I just snapped it in and put the drawer back - fixed. I hope I have other repairs this simple.

this bake element has two special Hex style screws, securing it in place, but a nut driver worked just as well. remove the baking racks, and then loosen the two hex screws. slowly pull the element out of the back wall and then disconnect the electric leads. reinstall by doing then the opposite action. could not have be simpler.

Sat on floor, pulled drawer out, inserted new clips, remounted door, stood up, high-fives myself.

The problem was caused by the owner placing an aluminum catch pan under the bake element. The failure of the element was where it was in contact with the pan. The repair involved removing two screws pulling out the element to access the wires. The connectors were the pull off type so I just disconnected the wires from the old element and ... Read more placed them on the new element, pushed the element back in place and replaced the two retaining screws. I suggested that the owner not place anything in contact with the bake element. Be sure to up-plug the stove plug before attempting repair.

Take the screws out of the inside of oven for the element and slide the oven away from way and remove the back and insert the element to the clips and screw the back of the oven back together and plug in again and push back in place. Very easy for my husband to repair.
