Ice Maker stopped working
  • William from San Tan Valley, AZ
  • Really Easy
  • 15 - 30 mins

Took out one hex screw, disconnect electric couplings, pulled original ice maker out and found that the water supply line to the ice maker was frozen solid as well as the shute cup. Used hair dryer to thaw out the line and the cup reinstaled old ice maker and it worked fine. Did not have to use the new part at all at this time. Am keeping new part for future use.

Icemaker does not make ice
  • Luis from Brownsville, TX
  • Really Easy
  • Less than 15 mins
  • Screw drivers
I'm a housewife in her late 40's. Before ordering the part, I watched your video on how to remove and install the new icemaker. First I unplugged the refrigerator. After a few minutes, I unplugged the icemaker and unscrewed it. I lifted it a bit and removed it. I did not use the icecup that comes with the part. Instead I removed the o ne from the old part and inserted it to the new one. Then I plugged in the new icemaker, placed it inside so as to match the holes and screwed it in. YES, it was that simple. It took me less than 10 minutes to do this. I saved myself over $100!!

Ice maker kept on making ice
  • Michael from Santa Fe, NM
  • A Bit Difficult
  • Less than 15 mins
  • Pliers, Screw drivers
I ordered a new micro switch that was activated by the high ice lever. Once the switch was replaced the ice maker cut off as it should have and stopped producing too much ice. YHis job was of moderate skill level, the most challenging was replacing a spring that popped out then reassembling the unit.

Ice maker leaking
  • Don from Horseshoe Bay, TX
  • Easy
  • Less than 15 mins
  • Screw drivers
Quite easy. Turn off water supply and turn off ice maker at switch inside freezer. Unscrew the old unit, separate the electrical connection, and pull it out. New unit comes with parts that do not fit my refrigerator, so visually examine the new and old units, reuse any needed parts from the old unit, such as plastic water ramp. Reconn ect the electrical connector, and screw it back in. Turn water supply back on and then turn ice maker back on at switch inside freezer. Discard unused parts. Wait up to 24 hours for new ice cubes to be made.

I watched the video from the link that was sent to me with the shipping notice. It was very easy to understand. I had no trouble at all. I'm 75 years old woman, however, and I can fix about anything. Don't be afraid to fix appliances yourself if you feel you have the knowledge.

The video on the GE site was great. Showed step by step instructions on how to remove the old ice maker and install the new one. Also helpful was the detail on the water chute which needed to be moved from the old ice make to the new one. Saved hundreds of dollars by not having to have a repairman do this work for me.

Plastic Drawer Slide Rail was broken
  • Dennis from Flower Mound, TX
  • Really Easy
  • Less than 15 mins
  • Screw drivers
I was a bit concerned that I might have selected the wrong part. There were several pictures of rails to choose from with slight variations on the website. Fortunately, it was a correct selection and arrived sooner than expected. The assembly was easy to remove from the refigerator. Two screws that held the slide in place were removed and the replacement was installed within minutes. I am very pleased that I chose to use PartSelect.
