Two top burners would not light, defective switch

Warning- we found a lot of bare wires in this stove, check your wires before replacing the bad switches. I lifted the top, disconnected the power, pulled off the knobs, unscrewed the switch for the back light, removed seven screws to finally get the front panel off. Once you have the front panel off, changing the swich takes less than a m inute. The switches just slide off the gas valve stems. Instructions show how to line up the new D-shaped switch mechanism to match the D-shaped shaft. Gently pull the two wires off the old switch and slide onto the new switch. Then put the panel back.

I first unplugged the power cord and raised the range top and shut off gas supply to oven. then i removed the broiler drawer. Then using the adjustable wrench i loosened and removed the gas supply line from safety valve. Then using the philips head screw driver i removed the 2 screws holding the heat sheild surounding the valve. Then i u nplugged the 2 wires on the valve body. then i removed the 3 screws from valve bracket and removed the valve. Install in reverse order and adjust gas orfice for proper burner flame using adjustable wrench. takes about 30 mins. I have done this repair once befor so i kinda knew what i was doing from the get go!!!! I had the new part i had ordered from this site in just 3 days!!!

This hard to find GE part number was easy to find at PartSelect.com. The GE dealer said the part was permanently out of stock. Lift lid and remove a few screws and pull off two wires and replace switch plate and reconnect everything. Good to go.

Oven burner would not ignite

  • Richard from rosemount, MN
  • A Bit Difficult
  • 15 - 30 mins
  • Nutdriver, Wrench set
I determined the safety valve must be defective. The model number of the Okeefe-Merrit/Tappan/Frigidaire/Electrolux stove (27 yrs old) could not be found online nor at Frigidaire's parts call center. However, due to Partselect's most helpful picture parts pages, I was able to find my valve with the part number clearly showing for me to see. No picture, no resolution. The info sheet with the part was beneficial and placement time was 15 minutes.

I raised the cook top and removed the fuse in the back, right corner and shut off gas at front left corner. After using meter to be sure there was no power, I marked the wires as front and back, disconnected them using needle nose, disconnected gas line using two wrenches, removed three screws in retaining bracket before sliding unit out. Installation was the reverse.

With fuse replaced before installation I measured 120 volts across the two wires. (Don't try to do it hot.) When attached to the valve the measure went down to 2.9 volts. After installation and all restored, it took about 1 to 1 1/2 minutes for ignition.

I may have saved myself the purchase of a new stove just now, but after 27 years I think she is going to want a new kitchen. It was worth the repair and Partselect was prompt with the delivery. Happiness returns to a disgruntled cook.

Opened the box, took out the drip pans and the put them on the stove. Wow -- even a techno-challenged person like myself could do this! I ordered these on a Tues. at 2:00 p.m. and received them on Wednesday -- that is a first so thanks for the fast service and they look great! Was non-existent to find them at local appliance stores in the area so thank you for having them.

After years of heavy cooking, I couldn't get the drip pans clean

Found replacement drip pans at partselect.com.
Ordered them and received them in 2 days.
installed the new ones and all is well.
Had I known it was this easy, I wouldn't have spent countless hours scrubbing the old pans with Brillo pads. Considering how much I spent on oven cleaner, scouring powder and steel wools pads, it was lest costly to just buy new ones. (and they look better too).
Thank you PartSelect.
