2468 - Instructions

After diagnosing the problem, I entered the Tappan Model #, found the part needed, and ordered from Part Select. On receipt (2 day delivery), I followed the instructions enclosed with the ignitor, and within 30 minutes, had everything up and running. Thanks PART SELECT!

Removed oven door. (two screws)
Removed racks.
Removed oven floor. (two finger screws)
Removed diverter (V) tray. (one nut)
Removed small panel @ left lower back of oven
(1 screw) to access elect. power disconnect.
Disconnected power.
Removed element (two square drive screws)
Snipped and stripped ol ... Read more d wires, connected new
with ceramic wire nuts supplied.
Installed new element, reversed proceedure.
Oven lights in 10 seconds. Wife happy!
Probably 40 minutes, could do it again in15-20
once you know what tools to lay out.

Bent the tips so the phillament can fit inside the oven.

first i removed the bottom of the oven [inside the oven] ,the part was right there,i removed 2 screws and unpluged the wires,then i cut the wire ends off the old part and used the wirenuts that came with the new one to hook them to the new part,then put it back in place,put the screws back in put the bottom back in and was done

had to remove burner bolts holding igniter were stripped cut two wires replaced igniter using two self tapping screws put wires together using wirenuts Honey making cookies right now thanks already told friends about you

I turned off the main power! Then unscrewed the back cover unhooked the wires and unscrewed the coil inside of the oven and pulled it out. My 10yr old son and I measured it and went online to order the part. I first did go into BestBuy and they didn't have the part (But they tried to sale me a new oven!) Safety first: Turn range circuit breaker to off position. Turn a surface unit [burner] to the on position ,if no light exists power has been removed. Turn surface unit to off position. To remove bake unit. With a 1/4 socket driver remove two self tapping screws and gently pull out on the bake unit until you can access the slide on ... Read more terninals. Careful lenth of wire is limited. Remove slide on terminals two each [2] . Install new bake unit in reverse order . Restore power

removed the end caps from the stove panel, unscrewed the back, unscrewed the old switch, CAREFULLY noting which wire went to which terminal, removed the wires.
Reversed the process. took a little longer because I felt compelled to do a thorough cleaning while I was there.

Removed lower drawer of oven and base panel of oven. Unplugged stove from outlet. Removed old igniter w/ nut driver (two screws). Disconnected wires (blade connectors) from stove base. Disconnected two-pole plug from oven after removing protective cover in corner.

Install new igniter. You will need to cut existing wires fro ... Read more m old igniter so that spade and two-pole connectors can be reused. Join these wires with the new ignitor wires using the ceramic wire nuts provided with the new unit.
Directions are also provided with the new igniter.

First thing is I looked for videos on how to replace oven igniter to get an idea. Unplug AC cord and turn off gas valve.On my model I was not able to figure out how to remove oven door. You can still work around it without removing. Inside the oven, remove bottom cover. Remove 2 screws located in rear corners. After removing oven bottom c ... Read more over, next is a burner cover. Remove 2 screws located toward front of oven using a nutdriver or socket. After removing burner cover , you will find oven igniter. Now remove bottom drawer. This is why its a bit difficult for others. Igniter has 2 leads. Laying down on the floor and reaching in to follow-identify where the 2 leads go to. Using same nutdriver or socket remove 2 screws that hold up the igniter. I cut the leads from the base of the old igniter so you will have some slack to work on when you reconnect the wires underneath. Install new igniter, run leads same way.Strip back about 3/8 in. wire, twist leads to proper wires and twist on ceramic wire cap that is provided. Make sure no bare wires are exposed! Now you can test.

Basically very easy. Be sure to follow suggested safe practices - DO shut off the circuit breaker to the unit BEFORE starting (I didn't to start with, shorted out the heater leads - dumb on my part). The crimp fittings were stubborn coming off the old one, so it took longer than expected. Otherwise, easy peasy.

First unplugged it. Then removed everything in side for easy access. Took screws out 2 of them. Had to pull to removed elemnet . That took a while. Should have tried removing other screws or at less loosen them. It went in easy. And lift off we had red burner. hey..

Removed two screws and removed the oven elelent. One wire was not through the back of the stove. Ordered new element anyway. Slid stove out (slide-in model). Unplugged power. Removed two covers protecting wires on back of stove. Found wire for oven element. Had to cut and strip end of wire and use new blade clip. Crimped new clip ... Read more to wire and inserted into oven through back of stove. Replaced covers. Plugged oven element to wires and tried out oven. WORKED ! Saved new oven element for next time. Difficulty encounted was lack of knowledge on where stove was screwed into counter-top and what size blade clip to buy. It always helps to have a dog 3" away just itching to lend a paw.
