Spring-compression – Part Number: 39-9650
$6.55
In Stock
Spring-compression
Part #39-9650
This is a compression spring that is used within various models of lawn mowers and is used to provide stability and extra control to the user during the operation of the equipment. This spring works in tandem with the rest of the axle assembly, such as the key, which is a small metal component that is inserted into slots on rotating parts like axles, to secure things such as wheels, within the entire assembly. If you notice wobbling, excessive vibrations or difficulty in maneuvering the lawnmower, the compression spring is likely worn, damaged or has lost its tension, and needs replacement. This compression spring is made of metal, is sold as an individual part meaning you will need to consider ordering 2 (one for each side of the lawnmower) and measures approximately 1/3-inch long. To replace this compression spring, you will need a socket wrench, flathead screwdriver and snap-ring pliers. It is recommended you prop your lawnmower up on a piece of scrap wood to make the removal and installation of the new tire easier. Use the flathead screwdriver, if necessary, to remove any wheel covers on your lawnmower, and then use the socket wrench to loosen and remove the wheel. Use some snap-ring pliers to remove the retaining ring on the outside of the wheel axle - you should then be able to remove the pinion connected to the axle. With the pinion out, you can remove the key in its keyway, and underneath should lie the compression spring, which can now be replaced. If you notice any of these parts that are also being removed are worn out or damaged, you will want to replace them immediately to prevent any future performance problems with your lawnmower.
