Bake unit burned out

  • Nutdriver
I'm a female so first instinct was to hire this job out until I came looking for the part price. I followed other folks instruction, unplugging the stove, removed the holding screws [2] inside using a nut driver, being careful to not allow the wires to slip into the back wall of the stove, pulled the element forward and unfastened the w ires from the bake unit. Inserted the wires onto the new unit, lifted the unit up a bit to get the correct angle to slide it all back in place, returned the holding screws to position, plugged the stove back in, turned it on and viola - an cheap, easy, satisfying repair job. Thank you for all of the tips. I saved over a hundred dollars and learned a skill.

Leaking gaskets

  • Dustin from BANGOR, ME
  • A Bit Difficult
  • More than 2 hours
  • Socket set, Wrench set
All the gaskets needed to be replaced on the Briggs 6.75 flathead I was rebuilding. I ported and polished the ports and shaved the eyebrow between the valves and the piston. The gasket set was a perfect fit. It is a monster now. It doesn't sound like a lawnmower engine anymore

burned oven bulb
3 of 9 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Ivanka from Atlantra, GA
  • Really Easy
  • 30 - 60 mins
  • Pliers, Screw drivers
The hardest part was taking out original light bulb because screws on shield where hard to unscrew after all this years . The old bulb vent out leaving neck in socket. It took narrow electrical pliers to get neck out .The generic appliance bulb did not fit and had aluminum neck ,not recommended for brass sockets in ovens.Putting new ligh t bulb in was not the problem.

The problem was that the 2 big burners were not working.

  • Bonnie from Highwood, MT
  • Easy
  • 1- 2 hours
  • Screw drivers
I ordered the 2 burners that were not working. When I got the burners, I discovered that one of the burners was still working and the wiring under that on had burned out. So I ordered the little box kit and repaired it. I only needed to strip wires and twist together and replace the small box. Now all are working and I am cooking with all four burners again. All for about $50.

Oven would not get very hot.

  • Michael from Cincinnati, OH
  • Easy
  • 15 - 30 mins
  • Nutdriver, Pliers
I followed the instructions from a previous customer posted on your web site. The only tip I would add is make sure you get a snug connection on the element with the connectors on the wires. I used a pair of needle nose pliers and gave it a little squeeze. My concern was I didn't want the wires to come off when I pushed them back throu gh the wall behind the insulation. We are having pizza tonight!
