106978556 Kenmore Ice Maker - Instructions

This was a very simple repair - the directions could be a bit more clear regarding hooking up the harness (which fit perfectly without modification) - as the space is tight and it is not intuitively obvious how the old one unsnaps. Just undo the 3 screws (1 bottom, 2 top), unplug the electrical harness from the socket protruding from the back of the fridge (it is not built in and flush with the back of the fridge as might be expected). Reverse the process and thats that.

Received replacement icemaker via ups. Opened box - three screws and disconnect cable. Old icemaker came out. New one - connected cable three screws and done.

I removed the bottom screw & loosened the 2 top screws so I could pull out old icemaker. I then ran into the only snag. The refrigerator is a side by side so there is virtually no room to access the ice maker, especially difficult to fully plug in the power cord for new icemaker. Other than that, very easy to repair. Waited a couple of hours & then the sweet sound of ice dropping in ice bin made it all worthwhile.

Three screws, two of the screws were hard to get to, can't see them, had to work by guessing somewhat. Very little space to work in. Done in 30-minutes???

Removed screws holding icemaker in place.
Unpluged the control wiring.
Installed new ice maker and pluged module back in.
Worked great and saved alot of money.

Replaced complete icemaker. Turn off power or you will get shocked removing old icemaker. Used mirror to see screw to loosen for removal. Decided to replace complete icemaker due to age and leaking ploblem looked like tray area detereated.

Due to the fact the part I needed would cost more than half a new ice maker I decided on a new one. The instructional was great confidence builder. The only problem I had was the plug to the ice maker was attached to the side of the refrigerator and I had to disconnect the ice maker at the plug under the front cover and use the old plug. Not a big deal because the video showed me how to do that.
I received the ice maker within 30 hours of order which was amazing! Its been making ice like new.

I ordered a new ice maker from PartSelect. It was easy to identify the correct part using the online parts selector. The first step was to disconnect AC power which I did by setting the circuit breaker to off. I then removed the bottom screw that holds the ice maker in place. I then loosened the 2 top screws so the ice maker could be lifted out. The only trouble I had was that I couldn't see one of the screws because there was not enough room to get my head inside the refrigerator. However, by noting the position of the bracket and screw of the one I could see, I was able to get the nut driver on the 2nd screw by feel. I then was able to remove the ice maker from the brackets but still had to remove the electrical connector. I had some trouble trying to unlatch the connector. I figured out what needed to be done by examining the connector on the new ice maker. After disconnecting the connector, the ice maker came out with no problem. I then reversed the steps to install the new ice maker with no problems. Although there is a note on the new ice maker that it could take up to 72 hours before ice cubes would be made, the first ice cubes appeared within about 3 hours. All in all, it was a relatively simple repair that most anyone could do. I should note that PartSelect has an online video that shows exactly the procedure (I had watched it when I placed the order but forgot the exact procedure for unlatching the connector). PartSelect made it easy to get the correct part and I figure I saved myself a lot of money by doing the work myself.

First decision was to deduce whether the solonoid that turns off and on the water to the ice maker was working. The water was working on the door so I gambled that the solonoid was working and ordered a new ice maker (correct decision). Second decision was whether to fix the ice maker or buy a new one. Buying the entire new ice maker was less expensive than the parts. In addition, the old ice maker was 15 years old so I decided to replace the entire ice maker. Ordering it was super easy and it arrived the next day! I watched the entire installation movie on the web and thought it would be a straight shoot but it wasn't. None of the wire harnesses that came with the new ice maker fit the old connector so I had to remove the old harness and install it on the new machine. Then I had to take the mounting bracket off of both the old and new ice makers and interchange them so it fit in the threaded holes in my refrigerator wall. Not difficult work - I advise to not throw out parts until all is operational. It worked on the first try! It was a relatively pleasant experience.

well i removed old one first and found that harness was halfway behind panel.so i removed harness off new one.held harness out with screw driver pushing against panel,then put harness on made sure clip was on good. then put harness back on ice maker set on screws tighten them.new ice maker working great and not leaking water.video was a great help to me thanks

Went easy with both the video as shown on the site and the instructions provided. Hardest part was fitting my arms into the narrow freezer to get to the mounting screws. Otherwise, perfect match on the part and didn't need to use the substitute wiring provided. Allow~ an hour for the new part to cycle to refill and start making ice.

Troubleshot to the icemaker as per the troubleshooting guide that came with the refrigerator. Could not initiate a harvest cycle by jumping the appropriate test ports on the drive side of the ice maker. Verified the proper voltage was present with a DVM. Ordered new ice maker, really easy on-line with PartSelect interface. Installed new unit in about 5 minutes and the unit dropped the first batch of ice about 2 hours later. Works great!

I removed the old ice maker wich was easy and just reinstalled the new one. If you are a little knolageable and watch what you are doing it is very easy to install.
