Took the old fan out and put the new fan in.

Remove back cover of freezer compartment; Remove old fan assembly, new fan terminals did not exactly match old one so I had to remove one of the terminals from old fan and attach it to new fan/ then install new assembly and repaced freezer cover

According to the instruction manual, except for using a saddle clamp and copper tubing. I have been buying bags of ice for over 15 years and finally when I bought a bag that had almost the whole side torn, I got angry enough to spend the money for the icemaker. One problem though,the local water isn't that great tasting and the icemaker didn't come with a filter. Upon checking new refrigerators, I find that some of them don't either.

Replace ice maker

It started out being a disappointment. I just moved into a new place that needs many repairs so I didnt want to spend too much time on this one. I ordered this part which arrived in just a few days. Not wanting to go through the hassle of boxing it up and going through the return process, I started taking it apart and replacing the worn or broken owned, (exactly why I ordered the entire unit). Nevertheless, I wanted ice so I fixed it with some of the new ones and some of the old ones. By now I've paid too much for the unit but it was my choice not to send it back and I now have ice. It was pretty easy to fix once I had the parts.

After receiving the new part almost immediately,using two screw drivers, removed the broken switch from the plastic frame. Be careful not to scratch or otherwise tear the plastic...very pliable. Since the original switch was factory installed and the wires were packed in fiberglass insulation, the switch came out but the wires and clips ... Read more were still in place and could not reach the new switch. It was necessary to pull them down with bent long nose pliers...used a lot of "pull" but the wires held up.Connected the switch, turned the power on and there was light! Reports from other users really took the uncertainty out of the task.

I tried to just replace the cover rather than the whole unit but it was impossible - the cover would not go/stay on. I tried to remove the old unit completely but it would not unplug it was practically fused to the back of the fridge and the liner was cracking. I tried to remove the old light switch using a putty knife and a hammer. It was hard to compress the plastic tabs to pull it back through the hole, but all of a sudden, the lights came on. I guess banging on the switch freed-up the contacts. The new switch is now a spare part in case I need it.

Went to various websites looking for guidance. Finally went to PartSelect since I had previously purchased dryer parts. I entered the model info, etc. from my refrigerator and ordered the ice maker installation kit. The install was fairly easy and everything worked perfectly. I was pleased with the new ice maker and how soon I received it. I was disappointed because there were NO installation instructions that came with it. There were only service instructions that came with it. I contacted partselect and was told that they get the part from whirlpool and they are responsible for everything and was given a pho ... Read more ne number to call. I called Whirlpool and was informed that they don't provide installation instructions, I said that on the web page is boldly displayed an installation instruction sheet. Whirlpool said that they expect that the installation person knows what they are doing. I let it go and was very careful taking the old one out and installing the new ice maker and the new pump.

followed the video as instructed. Saved two repairman calls, one to find the problem, one to install. Net savings was about $130.00

1. Unplug Refrigerator 2. Remove inside back freezer panel. (4 Screws) 3. Remove Duct Cover (3 Screws). 4. Cut electrical connections to fan. 5. Remove Old Fan motor (2 hex screws. 6. Install ground wire (was not one there previously). 7. Put slide-on electrical connectors on remaining 2 motor wires. (Were not any on original unit.) 8. R ... Read more eplace Fan Motor (Don't forget the rubber vibration pads) 9. Reconnect electrical wires. 10. Press on plastic fan blade. 11. Plug in refrigerator to test install. It works. 12 Unplug refrigerator and replace ducting and back panel to freezer. Plug it back in. Voila, Quiet again.

After finding an almost obsolete part( thanks PartSelect!) the installation was rather easy. Remove the back panel of the freezer and vent with a screwdriver and a nut driver. Disconnect the three wires, green, white and red.Remove motor from mounting and replace with new motor. I had to make a slight adjustment to the ground wire on the ... Read more new motor that required adjusting the position of the contact-no big deal. The motor fit perfectly. Popped fan on and assembled. 20 minutes max.

Removed the six screws holding the bottom access plate found at the rear of the refrigerator. This gives you easy access to the run capacitor that has a retaining clip. Remove the wire clip and pull out the capacitor (it has two quick disconnect terminals). Reverse the process using the new run capacitor to complete the repair.

Replaced original ice-maker with the ice-maker from the kit. Operational check was good.
