I was pleased with the new ice maker and how soon I received it. I was disappointed because there were NO installation instructions that came with it. There were only service instructions that came with it. I contacted partselect and was told that they get the part from whirlpool and they are responsible for everything and was given a pho ... Read more ne number to call. I called Whirlpool and was informed that they don't provide installation instructions, I said that on the web page is boldly displayed an installation instruction sheet. Whirlpool said that they expect that the installation person knows what they are doing. I let it go and was very careful taking the old one out and installing the new ice maker and the new pump.

Went to various websites looking for guidance. Finally went to PartSelect since I had previously purchased dryer parts. I entered the model info, etc. from my refrigerator and ordered the ice maker installation kit. The install was fairly easy and everything worked perfectly. I tried to remove the old light switch using a putty knife and a hammer. It was hard to compress the plastic tabs to pull it back through the hole, but all of a sudden, the lights came on. I guess banging on the switch freed-up the contacts. The new switch is now a spare part in case I need it.

I tried to just replace the cover rather than the whole unit but it was impossible - the cover would not go/stay on. I tried to remove the old unit completely but it would not unplug it was practically fused to the back of the fridge and the liner was cracking. After receiving the new part almost immediately,using two screw drivers, removed the broken switch from the plastic frame. Be careful not to scratch or otherwise tear the plastic...very pliable. Since the original switch was factory installed and the wires were packed in fiberglass insulation, the switch came out but the wires and clips ... Read more were still in place and could not reach the new switch. It was necessary to pull them down with bent long nose pliers...used a lot of "pull" but the wires held up.Connected the switch, turned the power on and there was light! Reports from other users really took the uncertainty out of the task.

Read more parts of the new ice maker had a big crack in it. Not wanting to go through the hassle of boxing it up and going through the return process, I started taking it apart and replacing the worn or broken owned, (exactly why I ordered the entire unit). Nevertheless, I wanted ice so I fixed it with some of the new ones and some of the old ones. By now I've paid too much for the unit but it was my choice not to send it back and I now have ice. It was pretty easy to fix once I had the parts.

Took a little while to figure out that I needed a flat tip screwdriver to lift up on the top of the plastic housing in order to tip it forward and remove it. After that I used pliers to remove the wires from the old parts and place them on the new. Removing and replacing the parts was performed by hand.

followed the video as instructed. Saved two repairman calls, one to find the problem, one to install. Net savings was about $130.00

Replaced original ice-maker with the ice-maker from the kit. Operational check was good.

The repair was super easy and the part worked like a charm. I love my new ice maker! I had to take out the top freezer shelf just so I could fit my head in the freezer to find one screw, but otherwise all went fine. Ice maker is held on with two top screws and one bottom screw. Loosen the two top screws, remove the bottom screw and li ... Read more ft out the ice maker. It plugs into wires on the inside, back of the freezer so this has to be unplugged. Plug in the wires for the new one, slide it down onto the two top, loose screws, tighten those and screw in the bottom one, replace freezer shelves and you are ready for ice...with no huge iceberg fouling up the ice in your ice cube tray. Simple! The wiring thing worried me when others described it, but it's no harder than plugging in a lamp, really. If I can do it, anybody who can stand on a shorty ladder can do it.

Had no problem at all it took about 5 minutes to get the tray off and about 5 minutes to put new tray on.New part fit perfect. Thanks Robert Lovern

After I did the prep work of removing the items inside the door the project took less than 15 minutes to get the repair job done. 1. Remove the door by taking off the top hinge cover on top of the door, remove the three screws with a socket wrench, remove the plastic gasket under the hinge, left door up and off the lower hinge pin 2. Pla ... Read more ce the new bracket on the freezer door hinge pin, flange side down 3. I had to place an extra spacer washer, which I had on hand, on top of the hinge bracket 4. Replace the door on the bottom hinge pin 5. My husband held the door in place as I reattached the top of the door with the plastic spacer and 3 screws I had removed 6. Replaced the plastic gasket and hinge cap on the top 7. With the door reattached, I removed the existing screw under the door directly below the new hinge bracket, lined up the hinge bracket to the screw hole and attached it in place. Much to my surprise and pleasure, the door swings perfectly, stopping where it should with the door shelves loaded! Thank you PartSelect for having a part that would work for my 16 year old refrigerator even though I had to add a washer shim to make the new part as thick as the original.

I simply watched the repair video and did it! Super easy, needed start device and capacitor. As easy as unplugging the old and adding the new. The video helped and gave me confidence. Wives can fix fridges too! Saved me $2500. Looks like I'll need a new excuse if I want a new fridge.

This is an easy fix, simply remove and replace. What I was impressed with is that a how to video was provided along with my part. I wish all manufactures would offer this, the video was easy to understand and you had a good view of the operation. Thanks, a job well done.
