Everything worked perfectly---thanks to the suggestion of your call center agent. She suggested that since the replacement door handles were no longer available, I should consider repainting them--it worked like a charm. Please tell her she was a life saver. I tried to just replace the cover rather than the whole unit but it was impossible - the cover would not go/stay on. I tried to remove the old unit completely but it would not unplug it was practically fused to the back of the fridge and the liner was cracking. I ended up breaking the cover and jerry rigging it over the bulb to prevent i

I tried to remove the old light switch using a putty knife and a hammer. It was hard to compress the plastic tabs to pull it back through the hole, but all of a sudden, the lights came on. I guess banging on the switch freed-up the contacts. The new switch is now a spare part in case I need it.

I am very satisfied I could do the work myself versus calli

I was pleased with the new ice maker and how soon I received it. I was disappointed because there were NO installation instructions that came with it. There were only service instructions that came with it. I contacted partselect and was told that they get the part from whirlpool and they are responsible for everything and was given a pho

ne number to call. I called Whirlpool and was informed that they don't provide installation instructions, I said that on the web page is boldly displayed an installation instruction sheet. Whirlpool said that they expect that the installation person knows what they are doing. I let it go and was very careful taking the old one out and installing the new ice maker and the new pump.

Freezer & Fridge warmed then stopped working

I oringinally thought it was one of the thermostats b/c the freezer started to freeze again after unplugging it. But then the next day it stopped all together and I could hear a clicking noise in the back and the compressor never turned on. It would click at around 2 minutes then again about 17 seconds later. I took photos of the origin

al wires in the connector to match up later. The new parts were not identical to the old. The red wire on the bottom fit fine but the other two wires would not go in the same terminal or numbered positions (1&4). For 2 reasons, 1, the blue female was too small for the male and 2) there was a male missing at position 4. After looking at the guts of the old connector I decided to get new females (2 trips b/c I didn't buy a big enough wire opening - needed 2 wires) and cut, splice & crimp them. I then put the two females on the top two males & plugged it in. No sparks or explosions... but silence. I waited a few minutes and then the fan kicked on and then the compressor started running. That was Sunday, it's now Thursday and things are working well.

Ordered the complete ice maker kit because I wasn't sure which part went bad. I replaced the ice maker assembly first which was very easy to do. I couldn't tell if the new ice maker was doing anything. I waited almost 16 hours before the ice maker started to run and make ice. I would just say to be patient after installing these parts if

I'm not sure you really want to know. We had to use one of the two refrigerator shelves we purchased, which was too big to fit in the freezer. It had to be completely modified in order to accomplish this. We therefore cut the shelf in half lengthwise. To do this, it was necessary to determine the tools needed, then to gather them and fina

lly use them. It took a good amount of foresight and perseverance, but the job was completed, works beautifully and is very helpful. We wondered why a freezer shelf was not available or if it was, why it was not clearly identified in the parts list.

According to the instruction manual, except for using a saddle clamp and copper tubing. Since I live in a mobile home, the water lines are plastic and I chose to use the same pipe to run the water line. This line was run from under the kitchen sink through the cabinets to the end. From there I used a flexible hose kit sold at the Lowes st

ore. I have been buying bags of ice for over 15 years and finally when I bought a bag that had almost the whole side torn, I got angry enough to spend the money for the icemaker. One problem though, the local water isn't that great tasting and the icemaker didn't come with a filter. Upon checking new refrigerators, I find that some of them don't either.

The repair was super easy and the part worked like a charm. I love my new ice maker! I had to take out the top freezer shelf just so I could fit my head in the freezer to find one screw, but otherwise all went fine. Ice maker is held on with two top screws and one bottom screw. ft out the ice maker. It plugs into wires on the inside, back of the freezer so this has to be unplugged. Plug in the wires for the new one, slide it down onto the two top, loose screws, tighten those and screw in the bottom one, replace freezer shelves and you are ready for ice...with no huge iceberg fouling up the ice in your ice cube tray. Simple! The wiring thing worried me when others described it, but it's no harder than plugging in a lamp, really. If I can do it, anybody who can stand on a shorty ladder can do it.
