1068628 Kenmore Refrigerator - Instructions

i noticed that no water was getting to the ice maker. rather than messing around with parts, i bought the entire unit. easy to remove old one and install new one. thanks...ice started again in about an hour. unit cost less than a service call!

The plastic part that connects the fresh cold water to the ice maker in back of the fridge cracked.
Do to the fact that Whirlpool has the part stick out on the back top part of the fridge. So if you push the fridge just an inch too far back the plastic part will crack.
I ordered (The Part S&H)- came to about, $11.00.

... Read more />1. Turned off the cold water under the sink.
2. In the back of the freezer section. I unscrewed the two screws that held the old broken part to the fridge.
3. I opened the freezer section and cleared out the top shelf till I could see the back of the fridge.
4. I removed the old plastic part by pushing & wiggling it about forward and it then extended out the back of the freezer side and then I pulled it out the back and it came out.
5. I slid the new replacement part in basically the reverse of step 4.
6. I connected the hose in the back. To the new, replacement plastic part, that fills the automatic ice tray with water.

7. Once finished I glued a small 2”x2” piece of wood next to the new part so the fridge will never get too close to the back wall so to never break that part that sticks out again.
Before just a small bump could break the part and water is everywhere and this leak could happen slowly at first and the next day what a mess.
Some fridges have this part recessed into the back of the fridge so this would never happen as my other fridge has.
Also, this might seem like more work then it was. It was very simple. I was scared I'd screw it up, but just did it step by step. If I had someone do it. It would have cost me a bundle.
It took more time to type this, then to do the work.
I had no instructions to follow, but again, was easer then I thought it would be.

I took out the old socket by moving a clip. Reattached the electrical wires, clicked in the socket and that was it.

The instructions are practically no help, but if you study the diagram, you can figure out the one screw you need to remove. Then the icemaker lift off of two brackets. I couldn't see how to use a screwdriver to unlock the bracket, but just applying mild pressure and pulling it forward brought it right out. I didn't have to change anyt ... Read more hing with the plug already intalled so it was very easy to pop in, lock the plug, pop into brackets, replace screw and I was in business. 24 hours later I had a bucket of ice! 15 minutes to figure out how to get old out and 5 min to replace new one. Fairly easy. Read posts here to get hints!

removed back cover, removed fan motor and replaced with new one. connected new power wires. worked right away

On my particular model refrigerator I only needed to remove one screw and disconnet the plug. I then slid the unit out. The new ice maker did not come with the plastic sled that was attached to the old unit. I removed and attached the sled to the new unit with 3 screws.

put arm up to stop icemaker from creating new ice cubes. us nut driver to unscrew 3 of the nuts holding icemaker in place do not completely remove the 2 top screws. lift off the screws and unplug from inside wire connection...make sure water tub is removed and frig unplugged. clean off ice anywhere inside freezer...take out new icemake ... Read more r and connect wire plug...attach icemaker on to the 2 top screws...use nut driver to tighten into place. add and tighten bottom screw...leave arm down...replace clean and dried water tube into back and make sure it slid into ice maker...tighten screws in back and attatch water hose to tube...plug frid back on slide back into place...will start making ice in an hr or so....

I removed the 2 screws on top and the one screw underneath holding the Ice Maker to the wall of freezer.I pulled the electrical connection from the wall next (wiggled it back and forth until it came out).
I matched it up to the picture from this site and ordered the replacement unit.

A good tip is to keep the old unit so you can configure the new unit the same. Although it was easy, this took me the longest of the entire job. Once this was done, it took me !0 minutes to plug the new unit into my fridge and then attach it back to the wall with the 3 screws.Not a hard job.Thanks

Pop off six mounting screws and the ground screw. Remove the fan blade and reattach. Reinstall. Save yourself big bucks.

We found the part number on the broken portion of the old part, googled Kenmore refrigerator parts, found your site, and plugged the part number in. Read more ith, assembled the handle, screwed on the new part and it was as good as new. The old freezer handle was a little bit bent, so it didn't fit snugly. We were able to shim up the back of it so everything looks great. You're bookmarked for our next appliance repair! This repair was done by a 23-year-old new condo owner--her first appliance project!

Simple. 1st, removed broken part to understand part (water fill tube to freezer, plastic part at top of fill tube cracked). 2nd go on your web site and look at prints to find part number, Study video to understand video. 3rd. First I turned off water supply. Then removed the two screws that attach ice maker, then disconnected the wiring harness.

Attached new ice maker in reverse order.

By going on line and going to PartsSelect, the check out procedures traced the problem to the start/overload relay. Using a nut driver, I removed the back panel and using their instruction, I installed the overload relay. On the next to the last step on the instruction, the sealer in the kit was already hardened. I called the service ... Read more hot line at PartsSelect and they apologized and sent me another kit to finish the repair. In two days, the new kit came and the repair was complete. The whole experience with PartsSelect was great.

I replaced the defrost relay folling instructions I read on the internet--and it still didn't work--So I replaced the compressor start relay which was easier than the defrost relay--it worked and the fridg is working good.

The parts were reasonably priced, shipped promptly and received in a couple of days. I reviewed a YouTube video before starting that was beneficial. Huge savings over retail repair service. A+ replacement parts house and I would highly recommend.
