I took the cover off the control settings and found the timer. Removed two screws and replaced the defective one with the new one. Had to pay attention to directions since the timer is used in different ways and to make sure the loose wire was installed correctly (not the same way as the original ground was connected).

Was not making ice and the filler tray was chipping material.
16 of 24 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Robert from Hummelstown, PA
  • Easy
  • 15 - 30 mins
  • Screw drivers, Socket set
With a socket set and screw driver I removed the old ic e maker . It took about 1 hr. I worked slowly as not to make a mistake. The only part that gave me a problem was the plug. You need to take off the face cover to press down on the plastic release clip. Putting it back took half the time because you knew what to look for.Just plug it in and mount the screws back in place , make sure it was level and I had ice in about an hour.

The refrigerator door made a terrible bang every time it was opened.

The hardest part was unloading all the food from the refridgerator door! Once done, pry shroud off top door hinge, remove 3 screws and hinge plate. Lift door off bottom hinge. Remove one screw from bottom of door, remove and discard old lifter cam and spacer. Clean up a bit. Install new spacer and lifter cam. Tighten new screw firml y. Replace the lifter cam and spacer on bottom hinge pin (affixed to refridgerator body) using the same method. Replacing the door is easiest if 2 people do it. One person to lift and steady the door, the other has to lie on the floor and guide the door onto the hinge pin. Replace top hinge plate and screws. Snap shroud back over top hinge plate. Replace food in refridgerator. Close door. Done!

Fan and Light working but would not cool down inside

This problem first accrued when the unit was under warranty and the repair person told me this would happen again. This technician told me how to troubleshoot the problem and sure enough the Compressor Start Relay was bad again. For starters I moved the refrigerator out from the wall and cabinets. I unplugged the wall cord from the rec eptacle. I removed the screws, with a ¼ inch spin-tight that held the backing in front of the compressor compartment. I disconnected the two wires then pulled the Start-Dev PS991485 out and it rattled, a good sign the relay was bad. I looked up the Part on the Web Site and ordered the replacement relay, I thought. When the package arrived I found all the parts for the entire Starting and over Temp Protection circuits along with a new plastic cover box. This was a very good experience and I saved maybe $250.00 in repair costs by doing it my self, along with the replacement instruction that came with the parts.

Old, cracked freezer door gasket
12 of 13 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Ken from ALBANY, OR
  • Really Easy
  • 15 - 30 mins
  • Pliers, Screw drivers
This is in a rental house; Refrigerator/freezer has been off for a few weeks so just opened the freezer door and used screwdriver to pry out one corner then pliers to grab and pull old gasket (seal) off. Had the new one laid out overnight to relax it; placed one corner on and then the opposite corner then repeated the other two corners. Positioned the keeper edge plastic all of the way around to place the gasket in the door. Closed the door to check the seal and plugged unit back in. Waited and then checked air temp with hand held IR temp gauge. All checked good, no cold spots anywhere. Piece of cake!

I bought a new Whirlpool Refrigerator that didn't have an ice maker.
I wanted to install an ice maker. I searched your web site and found the model ice maker model it said I needed. WPW10715709. This one was a 4 wire 8 terminal. I needed a 4 wire flat connector. WPW10715708. You approved the return. It cost me $50 to return it. I bel ieve you should refund me the cost of this postage. Your web site gave me the wrong model number.

Thank you

Scratches in Surface

This product comes in a bottle with a brush like Liquid Paper. It goes on incredibly easy. A second coat might be needed. I wanted to prevent rust from setting in so I covered the scratches and dings. The paint is a little brighter since my washer is 10 years old but it still looks great.

Suspected fan failure

  • Don from Oregon City, OR

I pulled the refer from the wall, disconnected the power and removed the cardboard cover at the base. Using a vacuum and compressed air, I cleaned it thoroughly.
I used a screwdriver to lift the locking tab on the 3-wire connector and removed it. The best way to get the three bolts off was with a 1/4" drive ratchet and go to the std nutdriver handle when they were loose. The fan came out carefully with the blade. I removed the blade nut with flat nosed pliers, cleaned it and placed it on the new motor. I replaced the motor and installed the screws. On a do-over I would install onew screw in each hole at least halfway to get the threads started/ threaded. After that the connector slipped in and I spun the blade to check for interference. The blades can be slightly bent, but use of nut tension can also slightly adjust fan alignment as it's tight to the housing.
That's it
