106415 Kenmore Refrigerator - Instructions

Once I saw the replacement part I understood how to pry out the switch with a small screwdriver. Then just unplug the old one, plug in the new one and pop it into place.

The PartSelect site made it easy to correctly identify the correct part, it was inexpensive, and the shipping was fast.

I first verified that the icemaker unit itself was functioning. I did this by opening the frezzer door and pushing the light switch in, and lifting the cover to "watch" the icemaker. After a few minutes, the icemaker cycled---by that I mean the the plastic "forks' which "push" the cubes out, rotated. This, to me indicated that the gears a ... Read more nd motor of the icemaker was working. Upon inspection, however, there no water was being dispensed into the "ice tray". Other sites indicated that the water tube can and do ice up, preventing water from being introduced to the tray. I saw no evidence of this---which indicated to me a bad water inlet valve (which is solenoid operated). The valve is located in the bottom rear of the refrigerator, behind a removable panel. Replacement is straight forward---remove an replace old unit, and your back in business!

I unplugged the refrigerator, then I taped ice shield up to top of refrigerator and taped the little flap on the left side of the refrigerator to side wall then I unscrewed one screw on the right side that holds the plug cover, which was then removed. I then updid the little latches on the icemaker and pulled the old ice maker out far eno ... Read more ugh to unplug the connector, which was not easy, but did unplug. I then unscrewed the three screws with the nutdriver and attached the bottom cover to the new ice maker. I then slid the new icemaker far enough to connect the electrical connector, then slid the new icemaker in until it latched. I replaced the connector cover and untaped the two items that had been taped and pluged the refrigerator into the wall socket. The new icemaker has produced ice every since.

I removed the ice bucket,the gear is located under the ice bucket and engages when ice bucket sits on it and turns the tray for ice to fall in the shute,2 screws to remove and the gear comes off and I put the new one on and put the screws back,very easy to do, total time 5 minutes,repair man wanted to charge $114 for the part and $100 for ... Replacement was very easy as new ice maker was identical to the old one. Took about 10 minutes.

Removed food itmes on broken shelf. Removed old glass shelf cover. Removed broken shelf bracket. Installed new shelf bracket. Intalled new glass shelf cover. Replaced food items back on shelf

The slides fit into the slots of the self metal, but couldn't be pushed forward to lock into place! At first I tried to put the slider in by hand, but it wouldn't snap in place no matter how hard I tried. A friend also tried to get the slider into the slots and push forward to lock in place in the metal part of the shelf. No go! It to ... Read more ok a while, but I figured if I used a hammer to tap the slider into place that might work. It did. It would have been helpful to have some instructions on inserting the slider, such as "use a hammer tap the slider so it locks the slider into place". You just can't do it by hand! Other than that, it went really well and replacement then only took 1 minute. . .instead of the 30 minutes it took to try to lock the sliders.

The plastic lower door closing cam was worn down. Replacing it was very simple: remove the top door hinge by unscrewing three nuts; lift the door off the lower hinge; unscrew and remove the lower door hinge; screw the new plastic lower door closing cam on to the new door hinge; screw the new lower door hinge; lift the door back on to th ... It took less than 5 minutes to remove the old filter and install the new one. Push a button and the old one pops out, stick in the new one, and you're done.

I removed the Ice door front cover on freezer door. Found door pivot was broken. I installed door pivot bracket, and dashpot in kit. I used most of the kit to repair it. The door now works like new. Thanks for the right parts Frank

The design of this refrigerator door (it's a side-by-side) is somewhat unbelievable. The door is designed to hold things, yet when you do the weight of the door wears out the lower door cams. The cams are designed to "complete the door closing", i.e. when you gently push on the door the cam mechanism takes over. When the cams wear, the ... Read more door fails to close. Note to others - you may mistakenly think that the failure of the door to close is related to the seal; it is not.

The repair is quite easy; remove the upper cover, using a not driver (socket), then remove the upper door bracket. Make sure you hold the door or have someone else hold it. After the fasteners are removed gently lift up on the door and remove it from the lower cam assembly. You will see two plastic cam pieces; one on the lower bracket and one on the door. Both need to be changed to effectively "renew" the door closing mechanism. Once the cams are replaced the door can be reassembled to the refrigerator.

Turn off the fridge and unplug the power. Inside the refrigerator unit, remove two plastic panels extending from the front to the rear cooling vent by unscrewing two screws. Gently unhook the thermostat tube from the rear vent.

Unplug the left electrical connector and unscrew the lever control arm being careful not to bend it. Disconnect the right side electrical connector and you can now remove the control unit to a table to easily work on it.

Undo two screws to remove the thermostat bracket. Undo two more screws to remove the thermostat assembly. Install the new thermostat and reverse the process just described. It takes about 15 minutes if you know what to do ahead of time. You will have to reuse the plastic tube that covers the thermostat sensing tube.

Before I could install new module I had to loosen some fasteners on ice maker so I could turn shaft to align with new module.

Then push on new unit and three screws. Had tumbling ice in about an hour. My wife thinks I'm a hero. (I am)

I emptied refrigerator contents and tilted the refrigerator to the right so as to access the metal panel upon which the evaporation tray was resting. The metal panel is on the left side underneath the refrigerator and the evaporation tray is resting on the panel. I removed 4 screws that were holding the metal panel, pressed down on the ... Read more panel, slid out the old, cracked plastic evaporation tray, inserted the new plastic evaporation tray, raised the metal panel to its original position, replaced the 4 screws, being careful not to pinched the water line that feeds the ice-maker. VOILA! Un-tilt the frig and re-stock it. It took a day for the temperature to stabilize, due to tilting, I think. New tray $45.
