Ice Maker started acting up

I removed the 2 screws on top and the one screw underneath holding the Ice Maker to the wall of freezer.I pulled the electrical connection from the wall next (wiggled it back and forth until it came out).
I matched it up to the picture from this site and ordered the replacement unit.
When it arrived, it had a lot of extra parts to match up to mine and any other fridge.
A good tip is to keep the old unit so you can configure the new unit the same. Although it was easy, this took me the longest of the entire job. Once this was done, it took me !0 minutes to plug the new unit into my fridge and then attach it back to the wall with the 3 screws. Not a hard job. Thanks

Ice maker failure to produce ice
2 of 2 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Conley from richmond, TX
  • Really Easy
  • 15 - 30 mins
  • Screw drivers
The repair was simple.

I first did a diagnosis of the optical cuircuits and found them good. The tray heated up and when resetting the moor controller, the water cyccled to fill the tray so the only other thing it could be was the motor controller.

removed the service door for the ice maker
I removed the wire protectore screw and shroud
pulled the icemaker unit out and unplugged the unit
removed the motor controller end cap
unscrewed 3 screws holding the motor controller
removed and replaced the motor controller. ensured that all wire harness connector poiints were solid
reverse the above instructions and in 5 hours I was getting ice again!

$90 turned out to be a savings from the $250 it would have cost to have someone come out and look at the fridge.

I highly recommend to anyone who can read and use a screwdriver to perform this repair if you have diagnosed this as the root of your problem!

Turn off the water source and unplug freezer. Remove copper tube and then remove valve from back of refrigerator. Disconnect plastic tube and power connection. Mark power connection plug top with a "T", this reminder helps with the new valve. Plug power and plastic tube into new valve and screw assembly back into refrigerator. Using a wrench, connect copper tube into valve. Restore water source and plug back in in freezer. Within a couple hours, ice production was back.
Like the other repair stories (that helped me), this job was very easy.

Sears wanted $170 for labor for the 10 minute job, plus $130 for the part, which I got here for $65.

Unit wasn't producing ice

  • Michael from Ocoee, FL

It actually took me longer to think about the repair than actually doing it. It was three screws, two upper that you just loosen and then one on the bottom that you remove. Pulled the unit out and disconnected the power. Slipped the new unit onto the two upper brackets, after connecting the power cord, tightened the bracket screws, reatta ched the bottom set screw and I was making ice. Incredibly easy. When I ordered the replacement unit they said it would arrive in 3-5 days, but it only took a day and a half. Great experience all the way through. I'm a customer for life.

Stopped making ice. Black stuff coming out on ice

  • Paul from Navarre, FL
  • Easy
  • Less than 15 mins
  • Nutdriver
First I removed the (3) screws holding the unit to the side of freezer wall with a nutdriver. Then I disconnect the Harness from the back of the freezer. You have to work the Harness off connector because it was very tight. The Unit came with the correct harness installed so I reconnected the harness to the Freezer and replaced the (3) sc rews. I had ice in about 2.5 hours.

The repair was very easy. I ordered the part from Part Seelect and the delivery was very quick.
Opened the box and took out the new ice maker. Emptied the freezer, turned off the power and the water to the Refigerator / Freezer / Iceww Maker. Used a quarter inch nut driver to remove the old ice make. Really easy remove one scre w and lewsen two ther screws. unplugged the wiring harness. Took the bale arm off old unit and installed it on the new unit. Check to make sure I had the right wiring harness installed on the ic make which it was. Installed and leveled the new unit. in a little over a hour I had ice. Had to make a few adjustments to the water level setting to make sure all ice cube trays filled up completely.

So easy to do a cave man could do it.

Ice maker quit, I cross wired the two solenoid valves and determined the valvles were not the problem.

Used a nutdriver and removed the lower mount nut, then loosened the the top two nuts and the icemaker lifted off, then unplugged the device and replugged it into the "old" plug(the new ones were not needed) then remounted it. Then it did not fill (as others posted happened right away.) Some poster suggested manually filling the tray so I did it. Later it froze and emptied and refilled and started working normally. Not sure if putting water had anything to do with it or it just took some time. It would be nice if the instructions addressed this issue.

I loosened the two screws on which the ice makers hangs and removed the third screw toward the back. I lifted the icemaker a bit and removed the part and unplugged the unit at rear. I reversed the process to install the new one. All very simple.

At first nothing happened, no water filling the tray. I thought there must be some other problem. A few hours later I heard ice being dumped into the ice container. I don't understand the delay but it works fine.
