PartSelect Number PS2361111
Manufacturer Part Number W10269458
This door interlock switch is for microwaves. Door interlock switch prevents the microwave from starting when the door is open. Because the microwave shielding and interlock switches must be properly tested following the door interlock switch replacement, a service technician should install this part.

Door switch inconsistent operation for Open/Close sensing.
Ordered top & bottom micro-switches and mounting plate parts. Internet reviews could not find specifics if the issue was due to a top/bottom or combination of micro-switch or mounting plate failure. Pulled the plug. Removed the top vent assembly cover held in by 2 Phillips screws inside the vent. Removed the control panel held in by 1 Phillip screw at the top vent assembly area. Lifted control panel upward to release the catch and moved it off to the side - didn't disconnect any leads. Used a Torx bit to remove the door switch mounting plates at the front and pulled the plates through the opening from the control panel. Documented the wire color code connections, the top plate uses 2 micro's with one using both the closed & open contact. Installed the respective micros on the mounting plates and worked backwards with the wiring and removal steps. Once completed, the open/close sensing has worked every time. Read more...

Outer frame had a crack and needed to be replaced
Had to discover how to do this the hard way, but the 1st thing you need is a blow-up diagram of the door which you can download from GE's website.

Note that all the components in the door save for the 2 handle screws are snap-on.

You will need a screwdriver and a putty knife.

The door assembly is on a simple pivot hinge which you can lift and pull off the microwave, making it easier to work.

On the inside face of the door, locate strip where the outer edge meets the inner door. The plastic strip is about 2" wide and goes all the way around the door. Remove this strip using a putty knife working around it to gently pry it off. Push putty knife into space between plastic strip and outer door panel. This will give access to the 2 handle screws.

Unscrew the screws and remove handle.

Using putty knife and starting at the top edge of the door near the center, gently pry the outer frame from the latching tabs until the frame comes off.

Snap on new frame and working backwards, screw back the handle, then snap back the the plastic strip and rehang your door on the pivot hinge.

Remember the parts are plastic so don't over tighten the screws.
Also remember to clean the outer glass panel inside and outside before snapping on the outer frame or your fingerprints will be on your microwave.

The new door was not exactly like the old one
The old design was easier to install than the new one. I assume that the new part was changed to make it less expensive to manufacture. Installation of the new part was difficult but doable. Basically, the bottom of the door was located on the hinge tab and the top was then rotated into place until it snapped into place. Some force was required to get the door into place. A large screw driver was used to force the top hinge down so the door could be rotated onto the hinge tab. It would be possible to damage the door if too much force was used. Read more...

Inner door glass EXPLODED while preheating!
Easy peasy. After using the shop vac to remove the glass fragments, 8 Phillips head screws were all that I had to remove. The schematic on this website was close enough, but I recommend taking pictures as you disassemble.

Caveat: I took it apart several days before I got the part, so I had plenty of time for my forgetter to work.

The door panel and grille vent are plastic and thay both cracked and fell apart due to cheap plastic parts from GE.
Removed the screws at the top of vent and took the vent off and then removed the door by lifting it off the hinge. I had to break the old plastic door frame to get it off, but since it was no good anyway it didnt matter. Then I put the glass in the new frame put the handle on it and snapped the frame on to the door and put it back on the door hinge and then put the new vent on and screwed it down and closed the door. Job was not to hard at all. Read more...

Installed handle to new frame. Removed old window and shield. Installed old window and shield into new frame.
