The single water inlet valve, also known as a water solenoid valve, is used for refrigerators. This part is a solenoid-operated switch that releases water from the supply line to the water valve and into the icemaker mold when activated. If your icemaker is making small cubes, does not dispense ice or water, or leaks, this replacement could solve the issue. The tools needed for this repair are a 1/4 inch nut driver and a utility knife. Refer to the diagram provided by the manufacturer for further instructions. No water feed to icemaker

To troubleshoot - Check water supply to valve. It f that's good - remove back plate, remove water valve reconnect inlet line, disconnect electrical connector, place valve over a pan with outlet fitting disconnected, temporarily connect 110 VAC with clipleads to water valve solenoid. No water flow means valve is not opening. To install new valve, connect outlet line, and wiring connector, then insert in cabinet and install 2 screws, reinstall back plate, connect water inlet line. This part is a solenoid-operated switch located at the bottom of the refrigerator. When the water inlet valve is turned on, water is released from the supply line through the water valve and into the compact icemaker mold. The kit includes the mounting hardware and bracket plastic tubing fittings. The retaining nut must be cut off the plastic water line and gently pushed into the new valve. To remove, press down on the ring that the tube slides into. Refer to the installation instructions for further guidance. Please note: the manufacturer has redesigned this part and it can appear different than the original. It has a new quick connection.

no water getting to ice maker

The ice maker had been slowly dying and one day just stopped making ice. No water was getting to the trays.

I read that this could be caused by a failure of the valve, even though the continuity test indicated that the solenoid was okay.

I ordered the part Friday afternoon. It was delivered Saturday. I did the repair in 10 minutes.

I pulled the fridge away from the wall.

I unplugged the fridge. I closed the water supply valve.

I unscrewed the two mounting screws using a flat head screwdriver.

I pulled the old valve out from refrigerator.

Using an adjustable wrench I detached the water supply from the valve. I detached the hose leading to the ice maker from the valve.

I pulled the electrical connectors from the connectors on the valve.

I attached the hoses to the new valve, attached the electrical connector, screwed the new valve in its place, opened the water supply, plugged the fridge back in, checked for leaks, and waited for a few hours.

My ice maker is working better than it has in at least two years. Read more...

The connection ports on the water inlet valve are John Guess fittings. To remove, it is recommend to push the line in and then hold the ring in. While holding the ring in, pull the line out. To re-install, push the line in until there is resistance. Push until the line "pops" in another 1/4". Pull on the line with out touching the ring to seat seal. This is a genuine OEM part and inclused 5/16" inlet tube.

Not enough water getting into circulation reservoir so ice cubes were very small and the unit was laboring to make ice.

The standalone icemaker: It wasn't making very much ice and made a grinding noise. I watched the water intake hose and saw that the stream water was weak and didn't fill the reservoir like it should before it cycled off. I replaced the water pump (at the front of the unit). Turn water off to the unit. Turn the unit off. Disconnect the 2 hoses-one plastic and one copper. un-screw the pump from the wall of the ice maker. Disconnect the electric connector. Hook the electric connector back to the new pump unit. screw the bottom plastic hose back on. Attach the unit to the wall with the 2 screws. Then attach the copper hose. Turn water back on. Check for leaks. Turn the unit back on. Using a flashlight make sure the reservoir in the back is filled until the water flows into the overflow drain. Make sure that there is a good strong stream of water from the intake hose into the reservoir. You should be good to go. If you have a lot of lime in your water (we do) then you will have to replace this pump every year to 18 months or so. It seems to get clogged up with lime and just doesn't pump enough water to fill up the reservoir in the time allotted for its cycle. Read more...
