This capacitor (Refrigerator and Freezer Compressor Run Capacitor, Run Capacitor) provides the voltage or energy current required to start the compressor and keep it running. It allows the compressor in your appliance to easily cycle on and off. This capacitor mounts directly onto the compressor starting relay. If the capacitor is faulty the compressor may get unusually hot and draw excessive amperage. It the compressor overheats, it may fail to run until it cools down again. The compressor may also get noisy from overheating. If this part is totally electrically open, it is defective (often due to overheating) and needs to be replaced. The part measures 1 inch by 1-1/2 inches, and is constructed of plastic with two metal wire terminals. This item includes 1 capacitor, sold individually. This part comes in black.

Replacing this frame requires you to remove the meat drawer and the glass shelf above it, so you can flip it over and slide out the old frame, and slide in the new. My whirlpool refrigerator's serial number is VS92036635 Type 18MSTFA Mfg. Date 201905 I don't think I've had this refrigerator over 5 years. It's acting as if the compressor is bad. Not cooling at all. Just like to know when it was manufactured and the warranty of the compressor. Really need your help. I had a couple whirlpool refrigerators in the past that lasted for years. Also have a whirlpool freezer that's been running for about 40 years. Other people tell me it's the compressor that's bad. I disagree. Hope you can help.
Chris Boyle Profile
Hi Richard, thank you for reaching out. According to our research, we would recommend checking the compressor start relay. The manufacturing date of your model is May 2019. The warranty is for one year from the date of purchase, when this major appliance is installed, operated and maintained according to instructions attached to or furnished with the product. We hope that helps!

Everything in the fridge keeps freezing no matter what the setting is
Chris Boyle Profile
Hi William, thank you for the question. Based on our research, we would suggest checking the thermistor, part number PS12745758. It senses the temperature inside the refrigerator and sends information to the electronic control. You may need to replace it to fix the issue. We hope that helps!

My refrigerator stopped cooling and the freezer section stopped freezing
441 of 556 people found this instruction helpful.
  • garth from forest lake, MN
  • Really Easy
  • 15 - 30 mins
  • Nutdriver, Screw drivers
I knew the chances of all the freon leaking out was unlikely so I looked at the wiring to the compressor and there was a capacitor and a starter/overload so i figured I would start there. I went on line and found the parts at this site and they were less than the minimum service call charge for a service tech so I figured what the heck le t's give her a shot so I did give it a shot. I ordered the parts and they were there in less time than a service tech could come out and i installed the parts and guess what for 90.00 in parts and 15 minutes in time I repaired my refrigerator. Thanks guys, It took less time to order the parts than it did to make the repair so thanks, your website rocks and is very well designed so my hat is off to you guys!

Evaporator Fan failure

  • William from Middletown, NY
  • Easy
  • 15 - 30 mins

The reason I repaired it myself was because the repairman that diagnosed the problem.didn't come back in two weeks. The evaporator fan sits behind a vented wall in the freezer and directs cold air into freezer and refrigerator.I removed the ice make assembly first and then the freezer wall held in place by two sheet metal nuts. Then remov ed wires from fan motor. Removed the fan blade from fan motor, which was press fitted on,then removed fan motor from bracket assembly(make sure and retain the two vibration rubber washers on back and front of motor. Reinstall new motor with vibration washers and press fan blade on new motor. Install in bracket assemble and reassemnble.

I used a flat-head screwdriver to pop out the old light rocker switch. Then, I unplugged the wires, plugged them into the new light rocker switch, and then popped the new switch into the hole. That's it! Lights began working again.
