Beater bar bearing failure
Replacing the brush/beater bar is a simple process. Removing the bottom of the head assembly with a Phillips screw driver takes all of 2 minutes. The problem came when installing the new brush bar. The old one had oval index protrusions on both ends that fell into a slot on the head assembly. The new part, identical in all other aspects, had one oval end -closest to the belt, and a round protrusion on the other end. Knowing what the answer would be if I called about the difference, I decided to take a hacksaw and turn the round into and oval. It took all of 5 minutes and the circle was now an oval. I inserted the bar in place and reassembled. No problems..so far. It's been used for a total of about twenty minutes as of this writing. I always expect a generic replacement part to have some sort of difference, luckily this one was easy to overcome
