The fan has lost power to move the smoke into vents instead of the room. Sets off smoke alarms.
For model number JVM3160DF2CC

Hi Richard, thank you for your inquiry. A buildup of grease, food particles, or other debris inside the microwave can impede the airflow and cause smoke to accumulate. Regularly clean the interior of the microwave, the turntable, and the filters or screens. Ensure that the vents or ducts leading from the microwave to the outside are clear and not blocked by any obstructions. This will allow the exhaust fan to expel smoke effectively. If all checks are fine, we recommend replacing the fan motor, part number PS8754500. We hope this information is useful!

Had to replace charcoal filter
Open the front cover by pushing it at the top (where it says “Push”), lifting up and pushing back on top edge of the old filter. Pull it out. Installing the new one is basically just the reverse of those steps! That simple.

Old filter did seem to be a little thicker (filter material), but the new one was the exact same dimensions, so it went in properly. Wish the filter material was white, so you knew just how dirty it was actually getting. But... :-D
