I start the trash compactor and mid way through the cycle the door comes open and it makes a loud noise. What is wrong with it?

Hi Vicki, Thank you for your question. If the drawer will not stay closed when the trash compactor is in use, you will need to check the drawer roller and the foot pedal. On most trash compactors, the drawer uses rollers to slide open and closed. These rollers can be warped or simply lack lubrication to slide the drawer open easily. To check the rear drawer rollers, lift the drawer out of its opening and check for damage or apply grease if necessary. The drawer front rollers are normally attached to the cabinet. If you need to replace a front roller, shut off the power source to the compactor and remove the unit from the cabinets. Use a socket to remove the hex nuts holding the drawer frame in place. This repair may involve removing the leveling legs from the unit in order to access the roller nuts. When reassembling the unit, make sure there is nothing blocking the drawer or rollers, and that they are well lubricated. If it is not the roller, it is likely the pedal. The pedal works with the drawer catch to release the drawer from its frame. To troubleshoot the foot pedal, pull the drawer out fully and visually inspect the pedal mounting screws to make sure they are tightened properly. Keep an eye out for any other damage to the foot pedal. We hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day.

Trash Compactor ram wouldn't lower
I pulled the trash compactor out from under the counter.

I took out the four screws that kept the top cover in place to expose the ram.

The gear shafts were turning but the ram would not lower, at first I though the ram drive bolts were stripped and it wouldn't engage the shaft. Then I realized there was a mechanical directional\limit switch at the top that controlled the power and direction the gear shafts were turning, this switch was broken.

Just had to take off the front plate that was held on by a number of screws and replace the switch that was held on by two more screws. It had five wires attached to it, the new switch was clearly labeled as to which color wire went where.

Compactor motor kept running after cycle ran, making alot of noise and unit jumping around.
Pulled the Compactor from underneath cabinet, unplugged power. Removed the top plate off compactor to expose the crush piston. Removed the front control panel by removing two phillips screws, wiring and directional (limit) switch is now exposed. Removed the two screws securing switch, removed wiring one wire at a time and replaced on new switch in same position. Replaced switch in same manner as removed, and followed reverse of above to re-assemble. Plugged back in and tested, problem resolved works like new. Only took possibly 30" to repair and saved an expensive service call.
