This is a high limit thermostat designed for use within various models of microwaves. The purpose of a high limit thermostat is to open the circuit of the appliance when the internal temperature reaches a certain threshold, to avoid becoming a safety hazard. If this thermostat fails or is damaged, it will cause your microwave to stop operating entirely. This is not to be confused with a thermal fuse, which is a one-time use component, whereas this high-limit thermostat resets once it drops back below operating temperatures. But if your microwave has repeatedly shut off, it is defective, or if the manufacturer recommends you replace it after it is triggered, it needs to be replaced immediately for safe operation. Consider inspecting your microwave for other component damage or factors that could lead to your microwave overheating, because that is what is causing this thermostat to be triggered. Replacing the high-limit thermostat will require a flathead and/or Philips-head screwdriver to remove the cover for the electronics of the microwave. First, you will want to unplug your microwave from the wall outlet and use your screwdriver to remove the side/top cover to give you access within it. Using your user manual, locate the thermostat within the main panel assembly and disconnect it from the wire harnesses, which may require a set of pliers. Here you can inspect it and any other components for visible burn damage. You can also test this thermostat for continuity with a multimeter, to see whether it is burnt out or perhaps defective. When i open the microwave door it turns on like it is cooking. Tested with door a little ajar and it did not heat the water i had in it.

Hello and thank you for writing. If your microwave is not heating it probably is caused by a faulty diode PS4235633. The microwave would not heat if you do not close the door all the way. If it starts turning before you selected a program this is usually caused by faulty door switches PS4225460 and PS4131192. The repair was very easy, however the bulb was not the same as the original one. The original bulb had a bright setting and a low setting, but the replacement bulb was only the low setting bulb. There was no bright and dim operation. The switch on the microwave had the duel settings.

Buzzing noise, no heating of food

Removed control panel, discharged HV capacitor. Removed old diode, tested to confirm failure. Replaced part. Other than the removal of the panel swapping the part was almost as easy as replacing a light bulb.

Appears to work, but food not heated

The high voltage tired was shorted. I replaced it with a new one, but that did not solve the problem.

You can test the high voltage tired with a voltmeter and a 9 V battery. Search Search for it on YouTube.

You can also test the high voltage capacitor, the high-voltage transformer, and the magnetron with a multi met er. Search for the procedures on YouTube.

I tested all these high-voltage components with a low-voltage multi meter, and they all checked out OK (after replacing the diode). However the microwave still did not heat food.

When working on a microwave it is important to unplug it and also discharge the high voltage capacitor. The capacitor has a 10 megaohm resister to automatically discharge itself, but it may have failed – – so discharge it manually.

In the end I ordered a new microwave.
