The clutch turns the crankshaft during starting and lets go when the engine runs. First inspect the rope, rewind spring, pulley, flywheel screen, and clutch bearing. Confirm fit with the complete engine number. Remove the spark plug wire, wait for hot parts to cool, and keep dirt out of the bearing area. Test free movement before putting the shroud back on.
