Mixer Made Very Bad Grinding Noise, And Would Skip While Making Bread Dough

1, Removed trim piece (1 screw) 2, removed cover (4 screws) 3, removed speed switch assembly (2 screws) 4, removed gear cover (4 screws) 5, removed and examined 2 worm gears for wear. Gear cover was badly cracked, don"t know if it was caused by a previous repair or by heat, as old cover is plastic. Received new parts and installed them, 2 bearings, 2 worm gears, 1 new cover of diecast metal and a new gasket. All repairs made with a #2 phillips screw driver. My wife then made bread, and it preformed flawlessly. Read more...

Worm gear stripped.

Removed mixer motor housing by removing 5 obvious screws.
Removed plastic transmission cover by removing 4 obvious screws.
Down load parts exploded drawing from PartSelect.com
Found the worn part by the shiny teeth on the large gear.
Found the large worm gear on the drawing and ordered the gear, and associated bearings. Did not need the seal.
Removed worn part, assembled new gear and beargings in same manner as the worn part, and placed new part in mixer.
Replaced transmission cover gasket.
Repacked grease from transmission cover onto the new gear.
Replaced transmission cover (4 screws).
Replaced mixer motor housing (4 screws).
Replaced mixer trim band around the motor houseing joing. (1 screw).
Plugged it and and it works, good as new. Read more...

mixer does not mix 4 cups of flour with 6 eggs very easily

sat on the kitchen table and with a screwdriver started to disasemble the mixer,hardest part was taking snap ring off (easy after you buy snap ring pliers)as gears were lifted off noticeable wearing was present on all parts. the bearing housing on the gearcase was broken lose, the only major expense. the other parts are not expensive so i decided to renew all parts. glad i did felt proud of myself when job was done. would do it again Joe Read more...

Updated 1970's KitchenAid Mixer Electronics

I did some research and evaluated a modern day Kitchen Aid Mixer. Looked a the wire diagram and found out what items I needed. Ordered them from Partselect. Overall Mixer is updated and running. I made up some cookie dough with it. The Project took a few evenings due to rewiring the coils on the motor/armature and modifying the rear bearing bracket to hold the Phase control board (not OEM on 70's mixers).
