Kenmore 80 Series Washer - Agitator Stopped Working
First I screamed at the ceiling, because I have a three year old and an infant, and the washing machine was dead. Then I went to youtube. It seemed like the "agitator dogs" were the issue.

In this spirit of any repair, I replaced them, and it was not the issue. I don't know what I expected.

Ceiling. YouTube. Pacing.

Then I figured it was this part - the motor coupling. I unplugged the machine and took out the drain tube. I leaned the machine back and propped it up with an empty detergent bottle, because those were abundant. Ratchet off a few bolts and the motor comes out. The coupling was indeed broken. The new one slips right in - I tapped it a few times with a mallet for good measure / vengeance. Ratcheted the bolts back on and tipped it back up.

Pros: Washer works now.
Cons: Everest-esque laundry pile to address.

But hey, it worked! I am no handyman and it wasn't too bad at all. Half hour tops.

Refrig making a lot of noise
The motor kit had only two wires coming out of it. The existing one in the refrig had 6. I spliced the 2 red to one black on the new part and 2 white to the other black wire on the new part. The two green I attached to a screw. I left the 6 wire harness in place just cut off the plug piece that went into the old motor, and spliced all my wires.
Worked great!

Gears ground when roller attachment applied.
Took screw off band. This revealed 4 screws to upper housing. Removed 4 screws and lifted upper housing off . To my surprise I found no screws holding gear housing cover in place. You could tell they were there at one time. Should be 4. I removed cover disasembled what was left of gears. Cleaned old grease ordered parts. Thought since there was only 1 screw on diagram it would ship 4. No big deal. After recieving parts further inspection revealed no screws holding motor in place. This blows me away. Anyway off to local hardware store for more screws. Got home slapped it togethere in 10 minutes. Ordered this off TV about 6 years ago. They must have had it in for repair and forgot to put it back together. All that aside it runs better than ever. Thanks much Michael Read more...

Installation Instructions
Jim from Frisco, TX
High pitched squealing noise for about 5 minutes when I first turned the dryer on. As the problem worsened, the squealing became more prevalent and annoying.
Removed the two sheet metall screws on the front foot panel, removed the four screws holding the door assembly, wrote down the wiring placement for the front door, removed the blower bulkhead assembly by removing one screw in the bottom of the dryer. Removed two screws and propped the dryer top panel up at a 45 degree angle to gain additional clearance. Removed the drum and belt from the front and back seals by applying simple outward pressure. Removed the screw in the bottom of the motor assembly allowing me to reposition the assembly for easy access. Removed bolt holding old Idler arm assembly. Assembled new Idler pulley referring to old assembly. Reversed the process to complete the repair. Note: I found it easier to simply hang the dryer belt over the dryer drum when replacing the drum in the dryer. First you need to place and align the drum then route the belt back to the moter pulley and then over the idler pulley. if you try to put the belt over the motor and then align the drum, it is difficult to keep the belt on the pulley. It might help to draw a diagram of the belt route or obtain the belt route diagram from the website for reference. Very easy job. Read more...

PartSelect Number PS11742711
Manufacturer Part Number WP488130
This hex nut is an authentic Whirlpool part that is sourced directly from the original equipment manufacturer, and will fit a variety of appliances including ovens, microwaves, refrigerators, air conditioners, and dishwashers. It is a metal part with a threaded hole to fasten parts in the appliance together. It is common for this part to wear out; it is recommended to order a spare. To replace this part the tools needed are a nut driver or wrench. This nut features a built-in external tooth lock washer, which is used to help keep the nut in place.
