The Recoil Starter Assembly, aka the Recoil Assembly, is a kit that includes the pulley, a return spring, the starter cord, and the pawls which engage the flywheel to turn over the engine. The components of this assembly are constructed of steel and plastic. The kit can be installed with a screwdriver and is rated as "Easy" to install (Tip: line all the parts up to install). This kit starts the engine, and you will know it is broken if the pull cord will not retract, or the engine is not engaging after it is pulled. The rope may also break. When the part breaks due to fatigue or general wear, it must be replaced. The part attaches on top of the engine where the flywheel is located.
