GSL25JFPABS General Electric Refrigerator - Instructions

Simple fix with information furnished online with the Dispenser Door Solenoid Assembly. Unplug fridge, remove selection panel by pulling out gently at the bottom until it releases then unplug the 3 connectors, remove next panel by unscrewing the 4 corner screws, then remove the solenoid by loosening the top screw and removing the two on the bottom, wipe all clean and reassemble in reverse with new solenoid hanging piston over ice door flapper lever first then sliding it into solenoid as you move it into position. Easy fix....$35 hopefully extended the life of a faithful older fridge for a few more years since it work/looks new.

Installing the actual ice maker was quite easy. What takes most of the time is preparing the freezer for the install. Need to remove all shelving, (and the door) to gain access to the unit. The ice maker is simple to install once access is achieved. Putting everything back together takes some time.

I just popped the old trim off and snapped the new into place. It couldn't have been easier.

The dispense cover was cracked and would not allow the blades to circulate, so it would not dispense ice. There was an excellent video on this page that explained how to remove it and replace it. The main trick is to be sure that the ice bin is left out so it will warm and make it easier to remove the parts.

The video was clear and the repair looked easy. My only problem was that the trim piece that had to be removed first was very hard to get off. I called PartSelect and ask if I was doing it correctly. (I didn't want to damage anything else) The person I talked to said that they don't provide technical service help but that he'd look at the diagram of the refrigerator to see if he could help me. He was able to confirm that I just had to apply more force to get it off. With the aid of a putty knife I was able to pry it off. After that I followed the video instructions and it was easy to make the repair. Things went back together easily and the problem was resolved.

Removed snape on trim with flat knife and some efford. Removed control as Steve instructed. Removed 4 screws from tunnel assembly. Unsnapped old tunnel and snapped in new. Exchanged flapper as Steve instructed, no problem. Removed 3 screws from seloniod assembly. Remove and replace with new. Replace control and wires. Replace snapon cover. Turn water on and plug in freg.

I found about an inch of water on the floor. Even when I turned the icemaker off the water continued coming out. The dispenser worked at this time. Replacing the valve was simple. Watch the video and recreate. My 6 year old helped out with most of it. Ice maker works great now, no leaks.

Because of the socket design a bulb with a slender shoulder design is necessary for replacement. Replaced with the original equipment type with no problems. Just a matter of using a little finesse with the tips of your fingers to get the bulb lined up properly with the socket then turning until finger tight.

The repair is nothing more than removing the broken shelf then tilting and sliding the new shelf until it "clicks" into place. The correct parts were readily selected from a diagram of the refrigerator door components but the most impressive part of the whole operation was the terrific delivery speed from Part Select - and we didn't even ask for expedited delivery!

Piece of cake and now I get loads of ice.

I followed a video supplied with the e-mail notification of the shipment of the part. This was one of the best experiences I have had with locating, purchasing and installing a replacement part for an appliance.

I watched the how to video and followed the instructions. The entire repair took less than 4 minutes. Hardest thing was disconnecting the control panel.

This is a cabinet depth fridge which fits snugly into its space in the kitchen. The worst part of any repair is pulling it out into the center of the kitchen and pushing it back in. After that we took off the back cover and the part is at the lower left rear corner of the unit. It was obviously spewing water. We shut off the water to the unit and ordered a new part. When the part came, we pulled the unit back out and disconnected it. The most difficult part was that one of the connections required a half inch open-end wrench to loosen/tighten. The other connections were the pull push quick connect type. The actual repair was very easy. There are other repairs associated with the leak that will not be easy. Damaged wood floor.

unplugged refrigerator to defrost ice on coils, removed shelves and ice bin and then began to un screw back panel which was a combination of hex head and Phillips head screws, two more screws to undue the heater element and unplug two wires on each side of element noting which color was on each side installed new heater element in reverse order.
