A thumps noise when the dryer was on which lasted a few seconds after the dryer is shut off
I used a video that played sounds and described what caused them. I found out the blower wheel was supposd to be tight and not free moving. When I spun the dryer drum by hand I heard the noise from the blower wheel and it kept spinning when he drum stopped. It also was loose one the shaft. I ordered the part from part select and then watched the provided video on the repair. Only difficulty was the clip removal. But was able to work through that. Had it back together and tested in about an hour.

Large gap at bottom of drum/door and tight at the top, allowing clothes to get wedged and damaged/marked
As described on video, except re-installing the belt was difficult. I found it easier to reinstall the drum first, then put belt on inside the grooved part of the drum, so there is some slack. Once installed around the idler and drive shaft, slide the belt forward into final position

The tumbler belt on our 30+ year old Maytag Dryer.
The repair went like clockwork. I watched the video and followed it ALMOST to the letter. When it came to putting the new belt around the motor pulley, the video suggested to do it from the front. I found it much easier to do it through the access panel on the back which opens up right in front of the motor. I spent some extra time cleaning out all the the dust etc from the inside - especially around the drum rollers. Thanks for the great instructions and the quick shipping time. The dryer should last for a very long time.

Dryer was making a metal on metal grinding noise as the drum turned, but only through maybe 45* of its rotation.
Removed the door, the front panel and the lint screen panel (easily done with a nut driver and a screw driver - 2 screws on the door and 8 screws for the panels). Tilted the top of the dryer open to see the drum. Turned the drum by hand and heard the same noise. Examined the felt pieces that insulate/isolate the drum from the front cover that retains and positions the drum. They were worn some, but intact. Noticed that one the the two front glide kits the the drum rides on (these are riveted to the bottom of the front panel mentioned above)was completely worn through allowing metal on metal contact. Ordered a new glide kit (about $20 including shipping - 3 days to arrive). Drilled out old rivets and removed what was left of the old glide kit. Installed new glide kit using the 2 rivets that came with the cork and 'teflon'? This took maybe 15 minutes. Reinstalled all covers and took it for a test run. No noise. Wife thinks I'm a hero!

No Power
Installing the new switch was a snap. With the dryer unplugged, open the top using a putty knife to release the 2 clips - one on each side. Lift the top and support it to stay open. Next, note the wire color and location for each of the 3 wires. Remove each wire from its prong on the bad switch by gripping the connector with pliers and pulling off. Next remove the bad switch by squeezing the tabs on the sides of the switch to release it. The switch removes to the front of the dryer. Install the new switch in the same method and reconnect the wires as before making sure the colors go back on the same prongs. I had to replace one of the connectors with a larger one (that came with the switch) since one of the prongs on the new switch was larger than the orginal (bad) switch. To do this, I cut the old connector off, stripped the end of the wire, and crimpted on the new connector. I had to be careful not to waste too much wire since there was very little slack to work with.

Broken belt
I watched the video that PartSelect had available and followed it step by step. The hardest part for me was my size, so instead of installing the belt around the pulley from the front, I went through the access panel on the back of the dryer. Considering I am only 5' tall and a petite woman, the repair was fairly simple. I seem to have done it correctly as it works!!

sometimes wouldnt start to turn, unusual noises
The repair instructions were helpful, but the picture from the back side was a little confusing when I was working from the front! This belt was replaced on this dryer last time in 2000, and this dryer is only 29 years old, I did take the drum out, vacuumed out the dust, and pulled the rollers and idler pulley and reoiled them viola!! the quietest that it had been since new!!

Heating element burned out
I chose to replace the whole assembly rather then try to string in a new element. The only reason I never fixed a dryer before was I could never find easy access to the problem. Finally discovered the two screws that holds the front on. Always thought you had to go in from the top or back. So easy!

Broken dryer belt
The repair when very easily thanks to the good video that was online from PARTS SELECT. I received my part with it three days of ordering it, it was the correct part along with instructions. I would certainly recommend PARTSSELECT to anyone needing a part for an appliance. Even though it was only a dryer belt, it was packed very well with bubble pack. I would certainly rate PARTS SELECT with a 10.

rumble noise when operating dryer
Went to the PartSelect website to look at the various repair videos and read what other users had experienced. Without dismantling any part of the dryer I determined the noise had to be coming from the blower wheel. Nearly every comment about "rumble" noise was related to the blower wheel so I thought that had to be it. Besides, my wife needed to use the dryer now, regardless of the noise, to dry clothes. Two days later the blower wheel arrived and within 30 minutes I had the old wheel off and the new one installed, just like the technician in the video. The old wheel was actually not worn as bad as I had expected, so the noise couldn't have been caused by that, but I decided to replace the wheel anyway. I put the dryer back together and started it up and the noise was still there. Duh! Now what? I went back to the videos and determined the next issues had to be the tensioner for the drive belt or the two support wheels for the tumbler drum. Went back to PartSelect and ordered all those parts and ultimately fixed the problem (the tensioner was the culprit) and then returned the unneeded parts without any hassle. Should have taken the dryer apart first, but that's water over the dam. Thanks!

Loud squeaking when dryer was running.
I did the repair just as the video described for replacing the drum rollers, roller shafts, and the belt. The most time consuming part was vacuuming out the entire cabinet as I discovered that the felt ring seal around the blower was not seated correctly which allowed lots of lint to escape. And the trip to the store to pickup a pair of retaining ring pliers (promptly returned after the repair, those things are expensive!). Otherwise a quick and easy repair and no more squealing! Thanks Parts Select for being such a fantastic resource!
