Jenn-Air Dishwasher Soap Cup Door Latch and Gasket

PartSelect Number PS1960445
Manufacturer Part Number W10131752
If the soap cup door latch and gasket is malfunctioning, the dishwasher door will leak. You will find this part mounted to the inside inner door panel. To access this part you will need to take off the door panel. Once you have this removed you should be able to see how the old part is in place. You will need to remove the wax motor to complete the installation of this part. Consider applying a small amount of sealer to the flat part of the latch, which will ensure a tighter seal.

Water Leak at right side bottom of the dishwasher door
After dissassembling the unit to discover the leakage source I determined that it would do best to replace the top three contributors to the problem as listed by you. Disassembly, parts replacement and reassembly was straight forward and a few hints garnered from your good instructions and assembly blow-up drawings made the job simple with the most difficult task being the removal of the adhesive foam gasket at the bottom of the door's interior. After scraping as much of the deteriorated foam away as possible with a plastic scraper I used some of my wife's nail polisher remover and a clean-up rag (being careful not to get the remover on plastic parts)and soon I had the adhesion area surface clean and ready to receive the new seal. With close attention to clean up of residues left behind from detergent and water and care taken with part installation and reassembly it no longer leaks and I hope to get another 10-15 years of leak free operation out of the dishwasher Read more...

Jenn-Air Dishwasher Wax Motor for Detergent Cup Actuation
★★★★★

PartSelect Number PS11746831
Manufacturer Part Number WP902899
This is a dishwasher wax motor actuator that opens the dispenser cover to dispense dishwashing detergent and rinse aid during the wash cycle in your dishwasher. This is an authentic OEM part from the genuine manufacturer. It is a little over 2 inches long, and mostly red in colour. Disconnect power from your appliance because electrical wires will be exposed during repair. The wax motor is held in place by two tabs for easy release. Once you have gained access to the actuator, simply separate the two tabs and replace the part. This part is sold separately.

The Soap Dispenser would not open duirng wash cycle
I suspected that the wax motor had gone bad based on reviews I had read. The repair requires a TORX bit to remove seven screws holding the plastic cover on the inside of the door. I sat in a chair with the door resting on my knees and took the screws out. Once open, the two wax motors are under the cover and easily accessible. You simply pull the wax motors out and detach two wire plugs. You should note how the wires are attached. The wire plugs were a little difficult to pull off but with a little effort they came straight off. Once new wax motors were installed, the soap dispenser opened.

I was also using a gel dishwasher detergent and was told that, for some reason, it might have begun to act like glue and this might also have prevented the soap dispenser from opening. I switched to powder and that did not solve the problem leading me to replace the wax motors. The soap dispenser spring seems a little weak so I have continued using powder.

Dispenser lid would not open
The wax motor seemed to work.
At first I thought something was broken and I tried to figure out the "theory of operation" Working the actuator of the wax motor, I COULD NOT GE THE LATCH TO MOVE THE WAY I THOUGHT IT SHOULD. I ASSUMED EITHER IT WAS BROKEN IN SOME WAY I COULD NOT DETECT OR THERE WAS A FLAW IN ITS DESIGN!

It took a long time to figure out the latch would not be worked open unless it was actually holding the lid- this positions the latch at "half mast" and allows the mechanism to "pick it up from there" and open the rest of the way. So once I figured that out, I concluded the failure was really just worn out parts that were out of tolerance for how this "half mast" position and opening was supposed to work. So I ordered all fresh pieces just to be sure, assembled it (very easy) and put it in (easy). It all works fine now.

Door Leak due to poor design
I removed the screws holding on the interior door panel. This exposed the soap dispenser latch mechanism. After removing the two retaining screws I transferred the original parts to the new retainer and replaced the grommet prior to reinstallation of the mechanism and interior door panel. A savings of probably $100.00 or more for a service call and parts. Should last a few more years. Read more...

dishes still dirty, soap remained in dispenser.
After repairing this dishwasher 5 times during the past 8 years this one was real easy: Open door, unscrew inside cover and carefully move over to one side. Unplug soap dispenser, unscrew soap dispenser and remove. Fit new dispenser, reconnect it, put inner cover back in its place and secure it with the retained screws and you are back in operation.
