Rubber Coupler on base had deteriated
Repair was really easy. I was going to bend the metal plate that used to be covered with rubber and had the cogs that coupled the base unit to the upper unit, so I could get an small ignition wrench on the nut under the plate. It did not need to be bent very much. However when I bent the plate upwards it loosened it on the motor shaft and I could unscrew it from the shaft by hand. Just be aware that it has left hand threads. All that was needed was a small screwdriver inserted through the bottom of the base into the fan blades to keep the shaft from turning. I removed the old coupler and screwed on the new part. It only needs to be finger tight since the rotation of the motor will tighten it with use. Again, remember it has left hand threads. A really simple and inexpensive repair that saved having to buy a new blender. PartSelect has saved me several times from having to replace an appliance when all that was needed was an inexpensive part.

Two of the rubber teeth on the motor base seemed to have melted.
Used a screw driver to pry off the old drive coupling and and reset the new one. Pretty easy. The prying off was the hardest part for me, but I have R.A. so I am sure that was a contributing factor.

Dogs broken off the drive coupler
Inserted a long thin screwdriver into motor fan blades to keep motor shaft from turning (lay motor on side). Hand turned coupler CLOCKWISE to unscrew, and then installed new coupler by turning counter-clockwise. Time involved was about 2 minutes. Supper , supper easy.

The plastic nibs on the drive coupler wore down to be usless.
I search the net and found instructions on using a screwdriver underneath to stop the fan/moter from turning. Just insert screwdriver between blades. I then us a channel lock plier to screw off the old drive coupler (reverse threads) Not much pressure required. Done in 30 seconds. I screwed on the new drive coupler. Done in 10 seconds. I was relived to find the solution to be so simple. I was very unhappy at first when i thought a simple plastic drive coupler may result in trashing a very good and well built blender. Kind of like a 'O' ring on the space shuttle. Glad I didn't have to go there.

Kitchen Aid Blender propeller hub replacement
Change the part but I must say, the video adjacent the part convinced me it would be easy to install. Exceptionally well presented, I will be referring your site to those I encounter needing parts or small repairs.
Those not having reviewed the video would likely have received the part and discovered they could not obtain a wrench thin enough to reach the nut on the shaft and tossed it and the blender out, or they would have had to take the sealed unit apart or attempted to put something into the propeller shaft only to further damage the unit.
Who would have thought the old part could have been so easily removed in 10 min. and replaced. Thanks so much, we had gotten attached to the appliance and they certainly don’t make them like it anymore. JimG
