Snubber Ring

Removed front cover. removed the hoses and any other part needed to replace the six drum spring and snubber. every thing went well washing mechine is working great now. Laid washer on its side, released five of the six tub springs, then removed the dive belt and the main pulley. With some effort removing the old snubber ring, placed the new snubber in place. After fighting with the large spring under the pulley I was able to replaced the six screws with the help of an assistant. Replaced the pulley, belt and the five springs. Closed the unit up and placed all the hoses back in place. I was amazed at how smooth the washer functioned with no vibration at all! Thank You.

I found on-line that replacing the snubber ring may fix the problem and ordered the part. With the instructions also downloaded I started taking the washer apart. Without the instructions the task would have been more difficult and possibly disastrous as I might have taken the bolts out that tighten down the snubber ring. All went well with a little patience. The washer works good.

Did watch the belt video and that was real easy but removing the springs and snubber ring was pretty difficult until i finally had someone help me by holding the tub. was hard to figure out how to how to get at the various parts. Howeve the washing machine is running real well now and I should be able to get several more years out of it. Better instructions or a video would have helped. I had a terrible sewer odor when the washing machine was running. i thought it was a problem with my sewer lines or traps until I took off the drain hose, almost lost it. terrible odor. when I replaced the drain hose and cleaned up the machine, the odor was gone. Saved a lot of money in needless plumbing costs. Good luck.

open top,remove back panel.then laid on the side and removed belt.remove hose from tub to pump.removed small hose for fill level.Hard part was to remove springs from tub.Then pull tub and transmission out of housing.Remove pulley from shaft.Lossen screws around snubber ring but do not remove them.Remove old snubber ring.clean surfaces with alcohol.install new snubber ring and assemble in reverse order.

Studing the numerous notes under the parts listing, help me determine which parts to purchase and replace. These listings also helped me to do the repair with much ease. Once the front and rear panels were removed, I detached the springs which came out very easily. I then pulled out the tub and removed the pulley and loosened the screws holding the snubber which then came out. Put in new snubber tightened screws, replaced pulley & put tub back in place. The springs were a little tougher which led me to believe the old ones were streched. I used a towel to brace tub to one side so as to attach spring on the low side. Used Vice Grip pliers and could not phathom using anything but. Put everything back together and washed a load of towels. The tub was way more stable, but still, towels were little damp. Respun and they dried. Determined that the repairs was all good but told wife not to put so many towels in at once which is probably why the snubber & springs wore out.

Had to change the drain pump, the bearing was shot and was the reason for the noise and the eventual stopping/belt breakage....Watch the video on this site for the drain pump procedure it's very helpful....The drain pump swap-out was very easy...Two hose clamps and three small bolts and it was done in no time..I changed out the snubber ring while I was in there... I used vise-grips to grab the the springs for removal/installation and lifted whe whole drum out....Just as others on here have suggested just loosen the retainer screws holding the old snubber ring just enough to slip it out and the new one in...It's really that easy...The toughest part is dealing with the springs and one piece of advice I can offer is to start with the hardest to reach first and save the easiest for last upon reassembly...Put it all back together and installed the new belt...DONE !!! Works like a champ !!!

I'm not a washing machine technician but I did nurse a new Kenmore machine for 23 years and was ready for a replacement. Craigslist advertised a Maytag I was interested in and I bought it with the seller's assurance that it worked perfectly. It didn't and I went online to try and figure out what might be wrong. Clearly, the tub was traveling beyond it's design limit and I suspected a spring or two might be involved. Somewhere online, I found the illustrated parts diagram and then went looking for additional information. To my extreem delight, I came across a do it yourself repair video that demonstrated the procedure well enough that I was completely confident I could make the repair with little effort. I found PartSelect and within minutes, I had the parts ordered. The parts arrived within 4 or 5 days, as promised, well packaged and in perfect shape. This morning, using the video as a final reference and the new parts, I completed the repair with only a minor hitch. Without the special spring tool used in the video, I struggled a bit with getting the new springs attached. That's where my wife came in handy (after all, she was movitated). Having her tilt the drum toward the spring landing made it much easier for me to stretch it into place using an adjustable locking plier. I actually enjoyed the whole procedure.

Followed the instructions given by robert from simpsonville SC. The only extra procedure I had to do was to put a block of wood under the tub to push the shaft up to reinstall the E-clip. This was not as difficult as I thought it would be.

With part select and their team of knowlege the hardest thing to do is stick your arm at bottom right of dryer and pull the pulley and put on belt, groove side down on the drum.there should be a wear mark where the old one rode,just line it up manually spinning the drum

one person on each end of rod spring hook on center of rod one person on each end lifting rod with spring hook to required hole.

Unscrewed two screws and removed front of washer
Disconnected two drain lines from tub
Disconnected 6 springs from tub
Removed tub
Popped off bottom plastic cap
Removed locking ring
Slid off gear from shaft
Unbolted screws from snubber support ring
replaced snubber
Put everything back together in reverse order

Worked like a champ!!!!!

I followed the instructions on this site. The only difference was I discovered that the bottom hole for the springs actually has 2 holes. The rectangular long one is for the spring to be inserted into. The small hole is for the end of the spring to pop up through. Making sure you do this makes it easier to hook the spring into the top spot.

1- unplug unit 2-disconnect water hoses 3-put unit in open area so you can work on it. 4-open top cover with screw driver 5-take off front cover with appropriate socket 6-lay unit on it back to get access to the drive belt (take off).and take off water hose with plyers.7-with vise grips take off the six springs.8-take tub assy out,and lay it on the floor upside down.9-loosen the screws to take out the old snubber ring, Note ( when lossening screws,keep your finger on the bottom of the screw ,so you can feel how far to back the screws out,just enough to have access to the snubber ring,to take out,and install new one.)REMEMBER NOT TO TAKE SCREWS OUT COMPLETELY.THE UNIT IS UNDER SPRING TENSION.10-put washer back together in reverse order,and problem solved!
