MSD2756GEW Maytag Refrigerator - Instructions

Given that the augur motor had broken away from the ice tray, removal of the ice tray was simple. Simply remove one screw and slide the tray up and out. Removal of the motor was simple by squeezing the top and bottom of the wire harness plug located on the back of the freezer compartment wall, although it was by feel. The real problem came with trying to remove the augur from the motor shaft (it has a left hand tread) it is on tight and while trying to remove it – I stripped the threads on the motor shaft and couldn’t get the augur off. That’s when the cussing started. No easy fix for this so in addition to the ice tray, I had to order a new ice bucket auger drive motor kit (which included the augur for the end of the motor shaft). Once all the parts arrived, and I had the motor and solenoid assembled and mounted to the back of the tray, the hardest part was plugging the motor back into the plug on the back of the freezer wall- you’ll be doing this by feel (which is a poor design). One suggestion, take a picture of the wire connections between the motor and solenoid – just to be on the safe side – before taking it all apart.

The video was my salvation it got me started & written directions supported the video--The pictures that came with the directions were not very good (it looked liked they were zeroxed many times & the clarity was not very good)--The parts arrived very QUICKLY & the video was perfect--YOU GUYS DONE GOOD!!!--THANK YOU

1.Pull refrigerator out from wall and unplug. 2.Turn the water source off! 3.Remove one screw from bottom and loosen two screws at the top of the ice maker. 4.Pull ice maker down and unplug the power connector. It has 2 locking tabs so press to release the lock. The water tube will pull out on it's own.5. Remove the cable, front cover and clips from old unit and install on the replacement unit.6.Re-Install new ice maker in reverse order. Always a good idea to take pictures before you do changes in case you are not sure.

Changing the ice maker was easy as per video instructions. I did not shut down power during replacement. The new unit started making ice within an hour or so, however, the next morning, liquids on the refrigerator top shelf were freezing up! I lowered the frig temp set point one number, but the top shelf continued to freeze. My son had had a similar experience, and he suggested turning power off to the unit for several minutes. I turned off the breaker for about 15 minutes, then back on. The top shelf freezing problem cleared up, and everything started working like it should!

I watched the instruction video and followed the instructions. Removed the old valves and installed the new one with the same water supply and electric wires

Easy disassemble removing screws to separate front of ice bin.Be sure to note how metal rod is attached to rear of ice bin. Installed drive ring and reattached face (front) of ice bin in about 15 minutes.

This is so easy it's insane: Turn the refrigerator off, you don't neet to unplug it. Remove all shelves and their contents in the refrigerator door, set aside and close the door. Get your handy stepladder, climb it, and remove the top hinge cover with a phillips screwdriver, then remove the 3 hex head screws and lift off the top hinge. The door will not fall off because of the magnetic strip in the door gasket and the fact that you closed it, remember? Get off the ladder and move it out of the way. Open the door while holding it on both sides, and lift it up a bit to clear the bottom hinge pin. An observer is good to have. Remove the lower hinge cover. The door is surprisingly light. Lay the door with the outside side down on a flat surface you have covered with a towel, or shop cloths to keep the door from getting scratched. On the bottom of the door, remove the "Natural Closer" with your nut driver. It sort of looks like a boomerang. Take note of which side of it is up, and which is down, and make sure you replace it just as it came out. Go back to the refrigerator, and lift the hinge pin out of the lower bracket, and replace it with your snazzy new one, again noting how it came out and making sure you put it back the same way. At this point, you may want to apply a slight amount of a food safe lubricant to the contact areas on the hinge pin, and closer. I actually used a sparing amount vegetable oil on a paper towel. Lift he door off the flat surface, and take it back to the refrigerator using both hands one on each side. You will be placing it back on the lower hinge pin, and now your observer can be of great help to tell you when you have the door lined up, and ready to lower on the hinge pin. Keep the door aligned the best you can, and close it. You don't want to ruin the lower hinge pin, or knock the lower bracket out of alignment. The door won't fall off after you close it: remember the magnetic gasket, and how light the door is? Back up the ladder. Replace the top hinge. The door may need some nudging to make sure the screw holes line up-don't pound on it, or it could fall off and ruin the lower hinge pin and its bracket. Have your observer hold the door in place. Replace the 3 screws with your nut driver, replace the hinge cover and secure it with the phillips screw. Check to see that the doors are the same height at the top, and have the same gap between the refrigerator and freezer doors top to bottom. Replace the lower hinge cover. Open the door, and replace the shelves and their contents. Turn the refrigerator back on, stand back and admire your work. Take pictures with your phone, and send texts and pictures to all your friends to show them how much more clever and resourceful you are than they are. On second thought don't do that because you will end up fixing their appliances. Tell them you called an appliance repair tech, and spent $125.00 plus parts and travel time to get the door to close properly. We won't tell anybody you fixed it yourself, it will be our little secret.

If you watch the video on PartsSelect that will give you a general idea of how to do the repair except mine was in a bottom drawer freezer. You have streach a little to get to the screws holding the ice maker to un-screw them just enough to lift the ice maker out.

Very simple. Viewed the video that was linked to the web-page and followed the instructions. Longest part of the process was removing and re-attaching the cover on the back of the refrigerator. The video can do more to describe the repair than my words.

New part arrived in 15 hours with regular shipping. Watched your video and had old one out and new one in, in 20 min and ice in an hour more. Fantastic!!!

It is a simple and quick repair especially if one is even a little capable. May take some extra care and thinking for one who is not but still should be fairly quick and without troubles. I am not happy with the product as it does not make ice even half as quickly as the original. Many have stated the first or the first few cycles are very long and then it became quicker and more normal. Its been a week and I also tried shut it off several times just to reset it. It makes ice wonderfully but takes forever. I've yet to have a full bin of ice. Even without using ice for a couple days or very little in a few days. I am considering returning it for this reason.

I never would have imagined that my husband and I could replace our ice maker so easily. We simply fired up the step-by-step video on my tablet, paused it as we did each step and voila! Usually there is a lot of cussing with any repair we do and I don't think there was even one cuss word uttered. Thank you for the clear and concise instructions!

went on line and ordered new ice maker for this model refrigerator. Received the new part. New icemaker provided video for replacement of ice maker.Used the video showing the removal and replacement of the ice maker to begin the removal process. (must remove one mounting screw, then raise the icemaker up then out to unlatch the fixture.) This took over one hour, then had to remove wiring arness. Instrucions indicated to "squeez" the locking clip holding the connector, it is impossible to see the connector so it was a "feel" process. It turned out that squeesing the connector from the sides, did not work, finally squeezing the locking clip (top to bottom) finally released the connector. Then the installation (per video) reversed the removal procedure and that turned out to be about a two hour task because to align the ice maker when you cannot see the alignment / holding brackets was a very difficullt task. Then when it was finally installed, the one mounting screw, would not align with the previous mounting hole, because the tab on the new one was longer, requiring drilling a new hole to hold the icemaker in place. The hole had to be made using the same (self-tapping) screw, since the space available when the icemaker is installed is very limited. After the mounting hole was partally made, driving the screw the rest of the way had to be done with a ratchet, other then that, everything was just great.

Searching Google and Youtube produced trouble-shooting guidance to first check the water inlet valve which I did. I should have realized the valve was working since the ice-maker was trying to fill the trays. Additional advice recommended skipping all the other component troubleshooting and merely replace the old unit which I did. The big difference with the Amana appliance was the icemaker was installed laterally in the back of the freezer rather than longitudinally with the end of the control wheel positioned towards the front of the freezer. This created a tight fit in removing the old unit, especially since the wiring harness was extremely short. The latter made access to the plug release catch difficult. I used a small flat blade screwdriver and worked mainly by feel to release the plug catch. Persistent wrangling finally got the plug detached and the unit free. The water inlet hose also had a rear access orientation while the replacement unit had access was from the side. The hacksaw blade was used to cut a pre-outlined access to allow the hose to enter from the rear as with the old unit. Once the shut-off bail was transferred, wiring harness reconnected, and water inlet positioned and clipped into place, the mounting screws were secured. Within 24 hrs the first ice cubes popped and the unit has filled the ice reservoir. Keep in mind I just ordered the icemaker and did not need any other add-ons like a different wiring harness which seemed to work fine. Confirm when you order you don't need any additional parts.
