Maytag Side by Side Fridge not cold, clicking noise

Like others who have done a superb job explaining this repair, I googled my way into this site, found an EXACT match for the problem I was having, which was a warm freezer/fridge where I could hear something trying to start up every few seconds.....a click.....a hum......and a click as it gave up. This process repeated itself. I ordered both the PTC relay and overload kit, AND the run capacitor since it was recommended by others that I replace the pair. Locating the compressor and accessing the wiring harness was easy. Replacement was a bit confusing for this first time Fridge repairman because the replacement parts are not identical, however the replacement is a 5 minute job once you know what you are doing. Taking off the old relay was simple with a flat blade against the compressor wiggling it off. Discovered a CHARRED relay. Replace it alone, Fridge fired right up and didn't seem to turn off, so I unplugged it only to find the clicking noise had resumed and the compressor was not engaging....so this time I replaced the run capacitor. Now everything worked great. Putting that black plastic cover back on looks and sounds so simple, however I struggled with it and have yet to compete it, but I will. Evidently it just snaps into place when you get everything in order. One comment I will make is that the new replacement part wiring includes a very convenient jumper because one of the leads is too small to fit on the compressor. Confusing at first, however makes perfect sense if you just follow the directions. Problem solved for under $100, and that included RUSH OVERNIGHT shipping!!! This store and the related stories on how to do the repairs....ROCK!

Research, read reviews, liked what I readed,looked at your videos, bought and replaced the parts. Most of the reveiws I read said it was the DEFROST HEATER and THERMOSTAT ASSEMBLY, but I went the extra yard and also bought the ADAPTIVE DEFROST BOARD. THE R/R WAS EASY, AND THE RESULTS ARE GREAT.

Removed fan shroud in center of plastic finish cover in back of freezer by unsnapping. Removed back cover in freezer by removing 4 screws with nut driver. Removed power connection from fan motor and removed 2 screws holding fan motor in place with nut driver. Installed replacement motor following steps in reverse. Plugged in fridge and cooling began with fan running.

Very easy. I watched the video and installed the part in less then 10 minutes. I suggest that you look at the tabs in the rear of the first cover as this will make the hard part easy. Once you remove cover, remove light bulbs and you will see two screws. Remove them and one in the back near the filter shift the unit to the right and it will fall in your hands. Remove the defrost unit and install new part. Thats it..

Installed part directly to compressor and placed new protective housing. Monitored temperatures for 3 days and verified proper function. Very easy install, part is not a one for one swap and as mentioned by others taking a little perceptive understanding to install.

icemaker leaking water into ice tray

removed old icemaker and transfer some of the parts to the new icemaker. The only problem was that I had to disasemable the new icemaker to replace the fill tray with the older style (which was included). Once that was done, installation was pretty easy.

Ice maker had no water and quit making ice

I removed the old ice maker as described by the DIY video and had no problem except, I had to remove the ice tray from the motor section so the end cap could be changed. This only required removal of two Phillips screws on the case of the motor assembly, that are used to to secure the tray. Once the tray was off, the ice ejector could be removed and the end cap was free to change. Everything was re-installed in reverse order and unit was mounted. An FYI to anyone with slow ice making, will need to check their freezer temperature. Make sure it's set to get as cold as 5-10 degrees Fahrenheit. After installing new maker, it was not making ice fast enough, only to find my freezer temperature needed to be changed as well. Everything is working as it should now.

The ice maker was easily replaced, however I still had no ice. I ended up using an on-line repair service which determined that the problem was the water inlet valve. Replacing it was beyond my expertise so I hired an appliance repairman.

replacing the electric water valves was not to bad took about 30 minutes but still had low water pressure traced it to the filter housing had good pressure going in but low coming out so I removed the housing and found a rubber washer was restricting the water flow so I removed the washer ,put it back together and it worked fine

Sorry for delay in writing. Part I ordered arrived two days ago and it was exactly what I needed. Knowing that there will be problems even with the smallest job I procrastinated starting. When I did start this morning I foud I had to completely remove the ice maker and disassemble it in order to install the water fill cup bracket. The challenge was reassembling the unit. Not hard for an experienced repairman but a challenge for layman. Everything is thing is back to gether now and power on cooling down the refrigerator. Won't know how successful it was until turn on water and ice is formed. If it works this saved $75 just to get a Sears repairman to come out and tell me what would be needed to fix the refrigerator and $1,000 if I had to buy a new refrigerator. Extremely satisfied with service I received. Thank you.

Took ice maker out all together we removed 4 to 5 screws had to remove axel to get the broken piece out and new one in my husband said it was easy in and out in about 15 minutes saved about 150. 00 Thanks partslect

I pulled down the wire around the glass cover. . . Released on end of the wire from its holder being careful to not let the glass cover drop. Unscrewed the bulb and replaced with replacement. Easy, easy.

The old light fixture and socket were easily removed. This was done with the power connected, but I already knew the switch didn't need to be handled. The solderless connectors are all insulated, so I just had to be careful. The new socket would not accept the connector for the "hot" (red) wire in the fridge, due to a design change. This is, of course, why you furnished a loose 3/16 inch crimpon connector. Rather than cutting the red wire (remember, the power is still connected), I obtained an insulated 3/16 connector of the opposite gender, and a short piece of red-insulated wire from an old fluorescent tube ballast, and made a jumper. The connector I provided (male) did not fit tightly in the original fridge connector, so I put a layer of resin-core solder on my male connector. You need tight connections. If the solder layer is too thick, it's easy to file down. Make sure to heat the solder sufficiently that the solidified solder is shiny and not dull gray. I used a 100-watt gun. 20 watts would probably work too. DO NOT USE ACID-CORE SOLDER OR FLUX ON ELECTRICAL WORK! I knew the switch was good, because I had checked for voltage at the socket terminals using my voltmeter, before I ordered the socket. It read 120 volts every time the door switch was open, and zero volts every time the door switch was pushed closed. A simple voltage tester would work here, too. Be very careful if you do this test or this repair with the power connected to the fridge; there is considerable potential to find yourself touching 120 volts with one hand while your other hand is touching a perfect "ground". There doesn't seem to be any choice if you want to test the switch. You do have a choice with the socket replacement - - the jumper described above. If you're not going to use the jumper approach, cut the power! If you are going to make a jumper and are not comfortable working on a "live" circuit, cut the power.

Pried out the old switch with small screwdriver, popped in the new one and tah-dah!! ..the light came on. While I was at it, I cleaned out the freezer :). I cannot begin to imagine what a repairman would have charged for this.
