GAFZ21XXRK01 Whirlpool Refrigerator - Instructions

I replaced broken fridge with a spare fridge; mean while I went online and did research and came across "Parts Select" which was extremely helpful with similiar situation and helpful guidance. $80 and fridge is as good as new.Thank you.

I'm a 65 year old widow on a limited SS income, so I needed to get my refrigerator fixed as cheaply as possible. Partselect's troubleshooting guides took me right to the problem. I ordered the part on a Friday and it arrived the next Tuesday. It probably took me a little longer than it would a repairman, but I did it myself with just a screwdriver and a nut driver and it only cost me $45 instead of the $200 plus it costs my daughter to have someone else replace hers two years ago. Always remember to unplug amy electrical device before removing the covers or attempting any repair. All I had to do was remove the lower back cover on the refrigerator and, using the partselect diagram, locate the casing that covered the start relay and the overload switch on the left side of the compressor. I popped the casing off with the screwdriver, pulled the relay off (it's sits on two prongs), and remove the red terminal wire from the relay. Installation of the new relay is the reverse steps of the removal. Thanks, Partselect! I will be doing business with you again if the need ever arises.

Besides the refrigerator not cooling, there was a click-buzz-click noise occurring at the rear of the refrigerator every 5-10 minutes. I started by looking up the issue online, I determined the issue was either the compressor or the starter device. I ended up ordering the replcement starter device from partselect.com. The replacement was very easy. All I had to do was pull off the rear cardboard panel, unplug the wire bundle to the starter device, and pull out the starter device.

I did exactly as the man on the video showed me to do. However, I was not sure what part was broke so I replace them both. Under $100 and my problem was fixed. This place had great shipping too: 2 days. They will be my first choice next time I have a problem. Oh and our local repair company would have been $125 for just a service call and they could get to it in a week.

Remove rear panel with 1/4 nut driver. Pop plastic cover on compressor. Pry off relay and two wires and reinstall. Nice and easy and back to full function :)

I just removed icemaker, bottom and back panel cover, remove the old thermostat, cut the wires, connect the new one and replace all covers and ice maker.So far is working perfect, no more water mess inside or on the floor, and my food is not frozen anymore, thanks a lot for your help and your trouble shooting help me to figerout what was wrong, thanks again for save me a lot of money

We heard the unit trying to start and then cutting off. It quit making ice. I pulled the unit out cleaned the coil and could feel the compressor was really hot. Unplugged it and let it cool down. After internet search plugged it in a heard it try to start then cut off. I read so many short stories on your site that described my problem I was convinced to purchase the part. You guys did a great job! I ordered it on Monday before noon it came the next day Fed X ground. Took me a liitle over 15 min. to put the part in. Plugged it in and it's worging great. We live in remote area and service call would be real expensive. I will be back here on next repair challenge. Thanks for your help. You guys offer a great service.

took back off found the switches on the compressor unplugged them and pluggged the new ones in very simple the vidieo was alot of help now it works really better alot quieter than before

Unplug refrigerator. Take unit cover off with a screwdriver or nut driver. Looking at the left side of the compressor you will see the start device and run capacitor with a clip around it. Use the pliers to remove the clip. Take screwdriver pry gently between compressor and start device and take it off. Replace with new part. Note: the clip did not fit the new one. Put the unit cover back on. Plug it up.

After I did the prep work of removing the items inside the door the project took less than 15 minutes to get the repair job done. 1. Remove the door by taking off the top hinge cover on top of the door, remove the three screws with a socket wrench, remove the plastic gasket under the hinge, left door up and off the lower hinge pin 2. Place the new bracket on the freezer door hinge pin, flange side down 3. I had to place an extra spacer washer, which I had on hand, on top of the hinge bracket 4. Replace the door on the bottom hinge pin 5. My husband held the door in place as I reattached the top of the door with the plastic spacer and 3 screws I had removed 6. Replaced the plastic gasket and hinge cap on the top 7. With the door reattached, I removed the existing screw under the door directly below the new hinge bracket, lined up the hinge bracket to the screw hole and attached it in place. Much to my surprise and pleasure, the door swings perfectly, stopping where it should with the door shelves loaded! Thank you PartSelect for having a part that would work for my 16 year old refrigerator even though I had to add a washer shim to make the new part as thick as the original.

Had to take everything out and defrost the whole refrigerator dry up and than took back off at bottom and the one covering the Bimetal. The hole was plugged so we took the compressor and blew it and finally got all the ice out before we put on the Bimetal. This is the 4th time we fixed this and I don't know why it won't last longer than 8/9 months. The warrenty is for a year and so far I have gotten 2 refunds thank you!

I simply watched the repair video and did it! Super easy, needed start device and capacitor. As easy as unplugging the old and adding the new. The video helped and gave me confidence. Wives can fix fridges too! Saved me $2500. Looks like I'll need a new excuse if I want a new fridge.

Pulled up part select video on u-tube. Followed instructions on dissambly of top freezer and found condensor freezing up blocking air from refrigerator. Checked timer to make sure it was good. Next checked continuity on heater to make sure it was good. Last checked bi-metal thermostat for continuity while cold. Found Bi-metal part to be defective (also rubber in top of was popped up which is a sign of a bad part). Simply ordered new part from Part Select, received in 2 days and replaced Bi-metal and melted ice with hair dryer and reassembled freezer. While waiting on part you can still use refrigerator by melting ice so air can get to refrigerator. I put a towel in bottom of freezer to catch water. Greg W. in Ga.
