EDW4000G00WW General Electric Dishwasher - Instructions

Well. I had a service guy come out. He told me it would be $120 for the part and $180 for the labor. We figured that we would just get a new dishwasher since my wife had looked at others. I suggested, since I had replaced a water inlet valve at the last residence that we order the part, and give it a try. I saw some ones comments below the part I bought the part and followed the directions someone had posted below my part. My wife came into the kitchen after I was already done, and asked me how long that I would think it would take me. Done in 15 minutes, and works great. Thanks

first off if you can understand the problem DO NOT CALL THE GE REPAIR SERVICE AND HAVE A REPAIRMAN COME TO YOUR HOME you will save over $300.00. a mistake i made, it cost me $79.95 just for him to tell me the dishwasher was broken and then i was told it would cost me over $300.00 to fix it. WHEN I TALKED TO PARTSELECT I FOUND THE WATERVALVE FOR A LITTLE OVER $55.00 WITH SHIPPING IT TOOK ABOUT 20 MINUTES TO DISCONNECT THE DISHWASHER AND REMOVE THE OLD PART AND ABOUT THE SAME AMOUNT OF TIME TO REPLACE THE NEW ONE THEY EVEN HAD GOOD INSTRUCTIONS IF YOU NEEDED THEM. The best price for repairs is PartSelect.com -- I ordered the parts in the morning. They shipped at end of day and arrived the next day via ground service -- no expedite needed. we followed the instructions as posted on your web site. Once the dishwasher was apart it was self explanatory. We did however need pliers to separate the wires from the old soap dispenser.

Replacing the soap dispenser was relatively easy, But a word of caution.when I removed the front panel, as it fell off, it pulled the electrical tape out of the door. That of course ruined the electrical panel. Even better, that panel is no longer made. So unless you really want a new dishwasher, be sure you support the front panel when removing. Probably the easiest way to do that (I found out later) is to sit on the floor with the front panel on your legs as youminscrew it. Do read other reviews about how to do the repair as the part comes with no instructions and GE is of virtually no help.

My husband followed the directions included with the replacement part that we ordered. It was so great to read of others' experience installing the part! It works great and we will certainly use this site again. Thank you so much. We saved $100.00 doing it ourselves.

snapped the axle into the wheel and snapped the assembly into place on the bottom rack. Easy.

We noticed our detergent door was not opening on cue to dispense the soap and it was leaving our dishes dirty. It came to be that our spring was sprung on the detergent door. I researched it and I could either buy the spring or the whole detergent contraption (installing the contraption was one wrench easier but cost $35 more). Knowing my husband the way I do, I decided to do the more costly route. I followed the instructions from previous installers on here and me and my husband did it in 30 minutes! I do agree that it is a two man job for some of it as I stressed to him NOT to take the front off haphazardly, as it was $400 to replace that! We took the 12 or so screws off, detached the line to the detergent dispenser, reattached, screwed it into the door and replaced the front 12 or so screws again. Easy peasy! Unbelieveable!

I've never done this before, so I took my time and it took 25 minutes. Now that I know what it looks like inside, it would only take maybe 15 minutes. There are 12 Phillips head screws to remove the front of the washer door. Once off, you need to unplug the large electrical plug to the "dashboard". Remove the screws holding the detergent dispenser, and unplug the two electrical plugs attached. Plug the two plugs back into the new dispenser, and replace the screws, being careful to not tighten to tight. Replace the front of the dishwasher door, with the 12 screws and you're done. Easy job!

Tub Gasket was very easy. Pull out old gasket. Clean. Insert new gasket. Short Bottom Door Seal was a bit tricky. Removed top and bottom dish racks. Removed old seal. Cleaned. Used screwdriver to pry open the snap in groove. Replaced top/bottom dish racks. Started dishwasher to check for any leaks.

First, remove the bottom front covers (two parts four screws). Second, remove the two screws at the top that secure the dishwasher to the counter. Third, gently pull away the dishwasher from underneath the counter just far enough to see and be able to remove the door spring(s) - one on each side. Fourth, remove the existing hinge arm link(s) if not already broken off, replace with the new one(s). Note that the door hinge goes on the door (front) side of the spring and the other side fits into a groove on the door arm - the other end of the spring attaches to one of the 3 available holes on the frame at the bottom. It would be a good idea to replace the hinge arm links on both sides even if only one is broken. Make sure that the door has the right tension (each spring can be hooked in 1 of 3 holes to adjust the tension). Then gently push the dishwasher back under the counter. Finally, replace the screws under the counter and replace the covers on the bottom front. All of this should take no more than 15-20 minutes. This was an easy job!

Pop off End Caps with pliers. Slide Upper Dish Rack out of dishwasher. Pop off "interior" End Caps with pliers. Slide out Upper Rack Slides. Slide in new Upper Rack Slide just past second roller guide snap on new End Caps. Slide upper dish rack back into place. Snap on new End Caps.

Shut off water, disconnect drain line from disposer. Remove dishwasher from wall and remove water feed line. Unplug or disconnect power to unit. Remove upper and lower dish racks as well as lower water sprayer bar, and filters. Lay dishwasher down on backside (make sure to catch water with bowl). Disconnect pump connector with nut driver and replace. Stand dishwasher back up and reverse removal process

Pulled out the lower tray, snapped off the wheel and Stud Roller, put the wheels on the new Stud Roller, and re-install. A monkey could do this one. It works fine now but will most likely go bad again. I see this as a temporary fix. I'm working on something more robust. My wife says just replace them every couple of years because they are so inexpensive and easy to replace. I guess she has a point, but making a bullet proof alternative seems like a lot more fun and gives me one more excuse to be in my shop.
