ATW4475TQ0 Admiral Washer - Instructions

First confirmed it wasn't the lid switch by jumping. Then confirmed by taking off washer cover that the transmission was leaking and spraying oil as evidenced by yellow oil film on the inside of the washer cover. The leaking oil caused the clutch assembly to slip and wear. Replaced both the clutch assembly and the transmission upper two seals.

To repair, after taking the washer cover off removed the agitator holding screw. Then remove two clips holding water pump. Unconnect the motor wires and remove two clips holding motor in place. Tilte washer back leaning up on a chair and remove 3 bolts holding transmission assy in place. Slid out the transmission/ shaft from machine.
I rebuilt the transmission by separating the case on bench and replacing two seals. To do this you first need to remove clutch assembly from the trans agitator shaft. The clutch is held on by a washer and two spring clips. You need to take note of the orientation of the parts for proper reassembly. The difficult part was separating the cover of the transmission from the base . After removal of the cover screws using a putty knife and hammer I gently tapped all around to separate the halves. The I replaced the two upper seals, one one the cover and one in the output shaft. The second difficult part that requires some skill is removing the seal from the transmission cover. I used a hair dryer to heat up the aluminum cover to ease removal of the seal. After replacement of the seals I resealed the cover onto the base using automotive silicone gasket maker. Note; I kept the transmission level during this repair so that I did not need to drain oil. After keeping the transmission level and allowing 24 hours for the silicon to cure I assembled the new clutch assembly and clips in reverse order on transmission shaft. Then reassembled the transmission, motor and pump in reverse order. Ran machine with full load of towels. Spin problem fixed and transmission is still leak free a week later.

Coupling bad. Turned washer upside down, removed hoses from pump on back of motor, removed two leads from the capacitor, removed the wiring clip from the motor. Pulled the two clips from the pump and removed. Unscrewed screws in the two clips and removed from motor. Pulled motor, removed bad coupling, removed a cover plate that had two screws. Installed coupling, lined up motor & coupling and reversed the uninstall procedure. Washer now works great!!

After seeing video it was easy . Took everything apart tub,basket,replaced all springs. Tub wear pads. It took longer because I cleaned eveything,took my time. There was a lot of deposits on tub and outer tub also some rust . Put it all back together all nice and clean . pluged it in put it in spin cycle and the motor just hummed. I than check to see if somethig was stuck no .Pulled motor tested it with out a load and did not work. Motor start winding went. Motor died. 2n one in 7 years. So I fixed that proplem I am a new owner of a Speed Queen washer and dryer .

You have to determine if it is the COUPLING or the TRANSMISSION or the CLUTCH. I checked the coupling and that wasn't it. The machine did rotate back and forth in the wash cycle so I thought it would be either the clutch or the timer assembly. I ordered the clutch and used the video to guide me through the installation. One problem was the PUMP was stuck on the shaft so I removed the hosed and took out the rest as one unit. The clutch was full of crud and after replacing it and checking for leaks, the machine runs perfectly now! I would suggest you replace the hose washers when you reattach them to the machine as I rechecked after turning on the water and found a TINY drip that would have been a problem over time!

Turned machine on it’s back after removing the hose that goes to the drain, removed the bottom dust guard, I removed the hoses (take a picture before removing things so you know how to orient them when putting it back together) and drained the water first but this is not necessary (there are YouTube videos where they suggest removing the outer case, unclipping the pump and then removing the motor. This would be optimal as you don't need to deal with the water running out of the washer when you remove the hoses). Removed the 4 electrical connectors (multi-plug, 1 x two prong plug and 2 capacitor connector plugs) One of the motor hangers were broken on my machine, I removed the other one and then slipped the motor out. Removed the broken hanger and securing screws and the old rubber grommets, slipped the coupling out (had to leverage out with a large flat screwdriver). Installed new coupling and rubber on the gearbox side, 4 grommets on the motor and the other coupling on the motor. Inserted the hangers on the gearbox side and then mounted the motor. (it is easier if you turn the washer on its back so the drum moves down and gives you more room to drop the motor in from the top), clipped the motor hangers on and fastened the two metal screws, mounted the pump and hoses and reinstalled the dust guard. Turned it right side up and tested before dragging it back into the laundry. Washing again like it did when first bought it in 1998. I would recommend that when a coupling brakes, replace it as well as the hangers and grommets to make sure it has no room for play. Mine broke way too quick as I did the last coupling about a year ago, problem I think was that I had the wrong grommets causing excessive vibration and wear.

logged on to partselect web site,selected washer brand and model #,clicked on parts diagram page and viewed the exploded view of washer. then determined the hoses to replace. with the aid of the diagrams repairs were greatly simplified. Parts were received within two days which greatly reduced the down time of the appliance. Thanks to the great service of Partselect.com washer is now up and running for only $40!

We search on line the possible cause for our problem and Partselect offered the possible cause and solution. We watched the video on replacing the water pump.We then ordered the pump and 2 hoses.We followed the instructions and after removing the front panel, we found out one of the pump retainer was rusted away. We tried to look for local supplier and was shock that Sears was charging 20 bucks for a single retainer, which Partselect only charge dollar and eight cents. We ordered the 2 retainers on Thursday and it arrived on Saturday afternoon. We were able to fix the problem and are very happy there was no more leak. I wish the retainers come with the pump even if you include the extra cost to the pump pricing. We could have save the extra shipping charge for ordering the retainers only. I would definitely order more parts from Partselect and recommend it to my friends. Thanks again for your help.

FIRST, I went to the wrong web site, and thought based upon their diagnostics that I had a sock stuck in the pump. The machine would run, but not pump nor spin. Further, I had no idea precisely how to get at the pump, which is located at the front to the machine. Bailed 20+ gallons of water, and a full load of wet clothes out, took the machine apart from the back (precisely opposite to the correct approach) and took the pump out--no socks, pump OK. Searched with the machine Model # and found Parts Select, and its help video, statistical analysis, and feedback. I jumped the broken switch, so I could wash clothes (a cheap piece of whirlpool engineering dedicated to the appliance repair trade's pension plans, no doubt), put the machine back together, and ordered the part off the web site page with the repair video. Wrong part showed up two shipping days later, and after talking to customer service, they shipped the correct part, received two days later. Took me less than 20 minutes to install the right part. It took me at least 45 minutes to repack the wrong part, drive to the post office, and then I had to pay postage, and am still waiting to get my $37 back--oh, and I am out the money for the right part while waiting to get my money back for the wrong part, and paying postage to send it back--and for $4 gas to get back and forth to the post office, and spending my time correcting the part of the problem not of my making. Prolly net/net I will still be monetarily better off than having called an appliance repair guy and getting a stiff bill for the house call, and full retail for the part.This web site nailed the problem based upon my symptoms--and I ordered the part shown in the video that was identical to what was broken in my machine, but was initially sent something else. If I had found this web site first, I would have saved myself three hours of figuring out how to take the machine apart backwards without ruining anything in the process, and removing a pump that was fine. Putting it back together after viewing the video took 15 minutes.....the only down side of my experience was getting sent the wrong part (a lid switch that did not fit my machine, and did not match what the tech was removing in the video--one with the three long lead wires, ground wire) and paying postage and taking my time to repack and mail.

Take off motor so the transmission comes out easier.You need to remove the agitator first.Took off old clutch and replaced it with all the parts that comes with the kit. Takes about 30-45 mins. Works great. The clutch didn't look like it was bad,but what a difference.

Took cover off washer and installed the new unit !! After the cover is off you can tell what you havet to do. Easier with 2 people instead of 1 !!

just followed the really simple installation video provided.REALLY SIMPLE...

Because the washer was over 5 yrs. old I took this opportunity to thoroughly clean the machine also. I took the cab.completely off including the back. I then removed the agitator,motor & pump as an assembly. I was shocked at the sledge that had built up at the top edge of the plastic tub. A thin brush and the water hose took care of that.Next I removed the old clutch & installed the new assem. reassembled the motor pump & cab. Ran the machine in the garage for a cycle to make sure it operated properly without any leaks before I hooked it up inside. I was impressed with the how to video it was a real confidence builder when undertaking this repair, also the price of the part was good and delivery was prompt. Parts Select has a new customer.

it was a little more of a problum I have the stackables . It was a little harder to lay them on there back . everthing great for me . But you need to send the directoins with the parts

Followed the steps on the Video that was post on the site. The repair was so easy I will keep this site in my bookmarked pages.
