Replacement of hood light bulbs
Unplug the microwave. Then remove the six screws that hold the lower panel which has the light bulb cover and a couple of vent filters. The light bulb sockets are on a fixture that is connected by a quick connect electrical connector. Disconnect that and the whole panel is free to access the bulbs. My bulbs were very fragile and trying to twist them out resulted in the glass twisitng loose with the base still in the sockets. I needed to use a needle nose pliers to remove the bases and then I replaced the bulbs and put every thing back together
Exterior light bulb (PS2376034) broken off in socket. No access for pliers after glass cover removed.
Unplug appliance. Remove total of 7 phillips screws from sides and front of bottom panel . Panel front drops down, remove one socket screw and socket. Now have access for lineman' s pliers to unscrew bulb base. Reinstall socket, replace bulb and 7 panel screws. Restore power.
The part as supplied is a generic for several models. The clip end is bigger than the slot and will not fit as shipped.
The clip end is @ 1"; the slot is @ 1/2". There are two raised pieces on the clip each @ 1/4" in. I used a metal snip to cut the oter 1/4" off each end-this allows the clip to be inserted into the slot and hold.
Philips screwdriver Removed screw (1) Removed light bulb Put in new light bulb Closed door to bulb compartment Returned screw.
Pro tip! Check how many bulbs you need before ordering. Mine only needed two. I got two. I suspect I’ll buy a new microwave before new bulb burns out again. Ordering/delivery was fast. No need to have spare on hand.
I was able to find the part on line and within a few days received the part and installed it with no problems thanks to the website drawing information.
After reading on-line about other Amana microwaves, that said the arching was probablly due to dirt or grease & I knew it wasn't dirty, I decided to try the sandpaper recommended to clean the carbon from the wall where the shelf holder had burned several years ago. This caused the remainder of the clip to become loose. I then took a sharp knife & popped the clip out which left a neat square hole which your shelf holder popped right into. The filters were an afterthought because I didn't want to pay shipping for only a $2 item
The turn table motor stopped turning ,but we never turned the off button off on the microwave and kept using it ,so it shorted to the outlet neutral (white) wire at the circuit breaker fuse panel , the wire burnt off. I cut the wire re-installed it in a good buss connector. That restored power back to the outlet.** So now to replace bad Turn-Motor: Using phillip screw driver remove (bottom)filter/light panel- 10 screws, unplug lights and motor connectors, lower panel out of the way ,remove 2 screws from motor and replace motor. Install in reverse order. (Fast Fix)**Note:If you had other problems like I did consult with a professional electrician.
You had alerted that it was imperative to unplug unit before starting to remove defective bulb. As described, there was silicon on bulb and socket and bulb broke upon my attempt to remove. Had to use needle nose pliers to get metal base of old bulb from socket, then all went well.
Removed the old part by extracting the two screws. Removed the broken tabs from under the screw holes. Replaced with new part. The part was new so it naturally was whiter that the old one. Thats ok!
