Following instructions that came with the service part, I used a flat blade screw driver and pryed the old plastic coupling off the motor. This left a metal threaded insert that I removed (left hand threads) and I installed the new coupling.

teeth broke off the drive coupling.
I just watched the video, and followed those directions. It is a simple repair, but often things don't work out that way. Your directions were right on target. My only suggestion might be to put a screwdriver up through the base of the unit when you are screwing the coupling on to keep it from rotating. Other than that, no problem.

Drive coupling broke
pried off the old one with a screwdriver, cleaned the stem, screwed on the new one. Ran the blender, done! I had initially called kitchen aid and they wanted to have me ship to them for repair or buy a refurbished one. For a $6.00 part they would have charged me $40. to tell me what was wrong with it and I could determine if I wanted them to fix it. Thank heaven for this site, and that I am not dependent on someone to see for me. I had the broken part in my hand!

Teeth were broken
The black part of my drive coupling had 4 teeth missing and as I peeled it off with a flathead screwdriver, the black part separated from the silver-colored disc within. I went to YouTube and found a video which was helpful (but I didn't need the rubber mallet)Took about 10 minutes total, very satisfied with how quickly the part was shipped.
