The oven burner igniter simply ignites the gas so it can heat the oven burner. The igniter does this by drawing electrical currents through the oven safety valve to open it. If the element shortens out, is no longer glowing, or is only glowing red or orange, replacing the igniter is the solution. You will need a wire splicing tool to do this repair. First, disconnect the wire harness from the igniter by removing the access panel on the rear of the stove. Next, access the front of oven and take out the racks before removing the bottom of the oven. For the rest of the installation instructions refer to the diagram provided by the manufacturer. Remember to unplug your oven from the power source before beginning this project.

Stovetop worked, oven did not.
First, remove the warming drawer. This allows access to the igniter's plug. Unplug the igniter. The rest of the job is performed within the oven. Remove the bottom (1/4 inch socket). Then remove the next, v shaped piece. The igniter is bolted to the aerator. Remove bolts, and it pulls right off. Reverse these to install new igniter. Read more...

Crosley Range Flat Style Oven Igniter Kit
★★★★★
★★★★★
55 Reviews
PartSelect Number PS1573892
Manufacturer Part Number 12400035
The flat style oven igniter kit is used in gas ovens and ranges. It is what provides the heat needed to open the gas valve, and it ignites fuel for the burner assembly. This part can be used for both bake and broil elements, and it can replace both short and long igniters. However, it cannot replace round style oven igniters. If your igniter glows for 90 seconds or more without igniting the burner, this means it is too weak to open the valve. The element in your igniter may have shorted it and it might not glow at all, or it might only glow orange or red. It needs to glow white hot; if it cannot get hot enough the gas will not be released from the safety valve and it will be impossible to light the burner in your oven. This kit includes the igniter, ceramic wire nuts, an insulation pad, a metal bracket, a variety of plug ends, and an instruction sheet. The body length is 3 3/4 inches, and the element inside is approximately 1 1/2 inches. This replacement part has an amperage range of 3.3 to 3.6. The element inside this igniter is extremely fragile, do not touch it. Before you start repairing your oven or range, make sure you have unplugged it and shut off the gas supply.

Oven would not work but the Broiler did
The oven had been working intermittently for a while and after repeated threats of starvation from my spouse I finally took a look even though it was summer and the grill was working fine. The Igniter would glow red when the oven was turned on but the gas would not flow to it no matter what the temperature setting. I searched online and found this site that explained it was possible for the igniter to glow but if it was not drawing the correct amperage (because its resistance was too high) then the main brain would not allow the gas valve to open. So I took a look at the broiler and it had the same igniter. I measure the resistance of both of them and the oven igniters resistance was higher (don't rememeber the reading) then I moved the Igniter from the broiler to the oven and the oven worked from there it was just a matter of ordering the part. End of story except for I am still doing all the cooking on the barbecue outside. Read more...

Crosley Range Oven Igniter - Vertical Mount Bake and Broil

This broil igniter assembly comes with its own metallic mounting bracket and a 7-inch-long dual wire lead with a plastic plug. This part will need to be repaired if your oven element is giving off no heat or very little, or is not heating evenly. You may also notice a smell of gas. The ignitor may still be glowing, but could still have gone bad. You will need a 1/4-inch nut-driver and a 5/16 nut-driver. Open the oven door and pull the door off the hinges to completely remove. Pull out the racks. Using your 1/4-inch nut driver, take out the screws at the bottom rear end of the oven, which will allow you to completely remove the bottom. Unscrew the nuts holding the igniter in place. Remove the igniter with the 5/16 nut driver. You should now have access to remove the old igniter.

Oven wouldn’t heat up properly
My oven has two igniters so I needed to determine which one was the problem.

Using the amp/multi meter I tested the connection between the igniters and the valve, with the oven turned on, to find the bad igniter. Depending on the model of stove you have, the amp reading you need for a properly functioning igniter will vary. My lower igniter read 2.7 amps with a rated amp between 3.3 and 3.6. So that was the culprit.

Replacing the igniter was easy. Two screws and a wire connected with a plug. I was able to do the diagnosis and unplug the wire without pulling the oven out. I pulled the drawer out and removed the two screws in a cover behind where the drawer was. You may not be so lucky…I have long arms.

I found removing the oven door made it easier to reach the igniter itself. To remove the door just open it slightly and pull up, it should come off easy…and replace in opposite manner.

Keep track of your screws and put it back together the way you found it except for the igniter that is.

Anyone with moderate technical skill could easily do this repair. The diagnosis is the hard part. I estimate I saved about $200 doing it myself.

Good luck.

This is a surface burner igniter, also known as a top burner ignitor and stove top spark electrode. It is used to generate the spark that lights the surface burner. If your stove will not start, element does not heat, or gas igniter glows but does not light, replacing the igniter can solve these issues. For this installation, you will need a Phillips screwdriver and needle nose pliers. First place the grate on top of the burner, then lift the burner and disconnect the wires. Next remove the two Phillips screws from the bottom of burner, pull igniter out of the burner and wiggle in the new one. Oven wouldn't heat - broiler and burners worked fine-Bake Burner Igniter didn't work
It was the week before Thanksgiving and we didn't know what to do without an oven. I did some research on Google and of all the websites out there, I found a decent price here at Parts Select and ordered it on Friday. I was shocked when FEDEX pulled up to the door on Saturday afternoon. I went online to youtube and found a step by step video specifically for this part. It's posted by the Repair Clinic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLxKoF16gac. I was able to fix the part and probably saved at least $150.00 for a service call and repair time. The part cost about $90 and I was done in less than 15 minutes. We just got this stove about 2 years ago and I'm thinking maybe we could have saved my old stove since it had the same problem. Great job Parts Select - I got just what I needed and saved a ton of money in the process. Thanks also for their great informative video online. We had a great Thanksgiving and were very thankful for all our hot food fresh from the oven. Read more...

spark igniter was weak and not lighting the flame.
Open top oven door and remove the 2 front screws which hold the burners and controls to the frame. DO NOT lift the burners more than an inch or so to look inside. You WILL bend the gas lines in the back if you do. Pull out stove from the wall, shut off gas supply and disconnect hose if needed to have room to work. Remove top back panel and remove the 3 wires connecting the top burner assembly and also remove the 2 gas lines. Now you will be able to remove the burner assembly safely. Flip it over and try to unscrew the screw holding the igniter. When you fail, drill it out and get a small metal screw to replace it. The metal is soft and the screw is hard, so drill carefully. The rest is easy, put in the new igniter and screw. and put it back together. Read more...

replace bad oven ignitor
Oven ignitor is on the bottom gas unit. Ignitor is in oven and plug is in warmer oven on left wall at very back of warmer oven. It has duel function to light both upper and lower gas burners (in oven). Wires of new plug that I received were shorter than existing wires and would not reach the plug from ignitors center mount location to plug at far back of warming unit on left wall. Even if the wires would have been long enough, I couldn't figure out how to "release" the existing plug. Easy solution: Cut old wires at junction of old ignitor (leaving wires as long as possible). Cut new wired as close to new male plug as possible (leaving wires as long as possible on new ignitor). Strip ends of old and new wires and wire nut with porcelin wire nuts (hardest part of job was locating porcelin wire nuts)! After placing wires out of the way of burner and ignitor, reassemble stove parts. AVOID touching new element as oil from hands will decrease the life of the element. Good Luck.. Read more...

This igniter and orifice assembly is a legitimate OEM replacement part for your gas stove, and includes the igniter, orifice assembly, and gas tube. This part may need replacing if the igniter fails or the tube is leaking gas. It is a very easy repair. Remove the grates and burners from the range. Unscrew the existing assemblies and pry off the cooktop. Locate the assembly you are replacing and undo the nut holding it in place. Pull out the igniter wire by hand, and install the new one, replacing the rest of the parts in reverse order.
