easy repair - prolong your oven life
I replaced the bake and broil elements on a 19 year old GE Profile JTP18WA1WW. The oven isn't used much, but I saw a hot spot forming on the broil element, and so I decided it was time to replace it. When oven elements fail, they either break open (if you are lucky), or cause a scary electrical arc. In some ovens, the arc will occur even if the oven is off, because one leg of the element is always electrically hot. This makes it especially important to unplug or turn off the circuit breaker before attempting any oven repair. Replacing the elements is much cheaper than buying a new oven (~$200 for both vs $2k), and I didn't find any significant rust in the oven cavity itself. The hardest part was getting the spade terminal connections tight in the confined space. Overall, an easy repair (<30 minutes), and the part fits perfectly.
