Touchpad controls were dead, but oven had power. Gas burners would light and electric griddle worked, but no way to turn on the oven.
First I ordered a touchpad and control (about $1000 together!!) and tried them after talking to Whirlpool repair people. No change. Then I used a voltmeter to carefully check that there was no power going to the control.

The power should be supplied by PS1877617 range control transformer. This had gone dead (voltmeter was used to confirm this). Ordered a new transformer, about 15 minutes to remove old transformer and install new one. It is held in by one screw in the front (screwdriver or nut driver); the back is held in place by inserting the other screw tab of the transformer into a slot. The electrical connections are made with hand connectors (with circuit breaker to range turned off).

Now seems to work fine. New transformer is $114.
