I watched the video on the web site and made the very simple repair. It was so easy that almost anyone could do it. Also, the parts arrived 2 days after I ordered them. The whole process was very easy and saved the cost of a service call.

You have to remove the upper rack from the appliance by releasing the stops at the end of the rack slide ( turn them outward). Slide out the upper rack in total. The wheel assembly is held on to the rack by three "clips" Depress the height adjuster to lower the assembly away from the top of the rack. Two of the three clips easily detach and slide off ( slotted attachments). The third is a bit more of a challenge as it snaps into the rack in several places. I very carefully used a small screwdriver to free it from the rack. Be careful as the clip costs as much as the wheel assembly ( go figure). I suspect if the clip broke , you could use plastic ties instead- not esthetic but cheaper. reassemble in reverse- good for two more years . I think I will probably epoxy the wheels to the assembly if they break again. It will slide just as easily and probably much more durable.

Most of the repair is simple. You remove the 2 retaining clips on each rack adjuster. Do one rack adjuster at a time. The trick comes in with the alignment of the center opening in the rack adjuster with the mechanism that allows the rack to move up and down. I had no instructions; and, that part of the repair is not intuitive. With a combination of depressing the rack height lever and simultaneously sliding the rack adjuster to meet it, I was finally able to engage both components, allowing the rack to slide up and down. Later, I also had to replace the broken retaining clips. That repair is self-evident. The clips snap on and off. Just watch the orientation.

Removing and Replacing the Rack Adjuster on a Model KUD30FXSS4 Dishwasher

Go to the PartSelect website from which you ordered the Rack Adjuster (part “4”) and print an illustration of the top rack. The model show is KUD30FXPA1, but there are essentially no differences. The only difference I could find is there are two (2) parts“5” and two (2) parts “6,” whereas on my dishwasher there was only one (1) of each.

Begin by taking a small screwdriver and gently removing part “5.” Next, slide the Rack Adjuster down as far as possible and gently remove part “6.” I found that removing this part did not require a screwdriver; instead gently twisting would get it to come off.

The next disassembly is to separate part “9” from part “2.” Part “2” fits inside the top and two sides of part “9.” There is a round tab near the bottom of part “9” on each side that goes into a corresponding hole near the bottom of part “2.” Gently insert the screwdriver between the sides of the two parts near the bottom and twist the screwdriver slightly. The tab will come out of the hole and the slight twisting will move it enough so that it will stay out. Do the same on the other side. Then insert the screwdriver about middle ways of the two parts and they should easily separate. With the Rack Adjuster slid as far down on the rack as it will go, take the screwdriver and gently pry out part “3.” I found that working from the bottom of each leg rather than from the top was the easiest way. Your Rack Adjuster is disassembled.

Replacing the part is just putting all the parts back together in reverse order. Use the Rack Adjuster on the opposite side of your upper rack as a guide of the proper location and orientation of the new one. Two things are particularly helpful here is there is a flat tab on the upper corner on each side of part “9.” Those tabs go into corresponding slots on part “2.” Second, the upside down blue “V-shaped” structure on part “2” goes into a corresponding slot on the Rack Adjuster.

Begin reassembly by placing the Rack Adjuster in the proper location and orientation on the top rack. Place part “2” on the rack properly with the blue item mentioned above into the corresponding slot of the Rack Adjuster. Insert the flat tabs of part “9” into the slots of part “2.” With a screwdriver, gently work the tabs at bottom of part “9” into the corresponding holes on part “2.” Replace parts “3,” “5,” and “6.” No screwdriver is needed for these replacements.

The Rack Adjuster is ready for use.

Difficulty: Little if one uses these directions and works gently

Tools Needed: One small flat-head screwdriver

pieces snap together - having the new piece made it easier to figure out how to dis-assemble the broken part from what had to remain with the new one. Not obvious in all cases how it comes apart but figured it out in a few minutes - have to be careful not to break anything else.

Very easy to repair. Took off two supporting clips, opened up the shelf adjuster and replaced part. Be careful prying open the adjuster

you need to remove 3 clips which is very easy and straight forward. The more difficult part is removing the adjustment slide, the main part. A few words of instruction with the part would have been very helpful. I kept moving the part around until it snapped out. Realignment to put the new part back in was trial and error. It finally slipped in and reinserting the three clips was easy.

I bought only ajusters #4 and used the old #5,#6,#3,#9.If you think they may break you might whant to order these also.Study which side of rack the part is on that you are about to remove.Dissconnect part #5 from rack and slide down to remove from #4.Slide #6 down to remove from #4. Part #3 has two pins on back side ,squeeze and push to remove from #4. #9 has two pins on either side at bottom,use screw driver to push out sides of part #2 to remove pins from holes.Top will slide down out of slots at the top of #2. Assembly- Start with #5and #6 to help hold adjusters in place,then #3 and #9. I hope this will help you.

Installed brackets

1. Remove top rank. Do this by opening the clips at the end of each railing. This allows the rack to slide out. 2. With a screwdriver take apart the rack adjuster. Be careful not to break the adjuster clips. 3. Reassemble new rack adjuster with clips. 4. Hint: Take apart and reassemble each side separately. This way you will always have one assembled side as a reference when putting everything back together.

It was a little scary pulling the parts apart from each other. I found that placing a screwdriver through the center and pulling the plastic apart. As you do this try and push the other plastic wider with your hands and they will pop apart. Putting them back is a easy .Good Luck

The most direct way to do this job is to completely pull out the dishwasher so you can get to all the parts involved. However, I didn't want to break and make all 3 connections. Having installed it using braided hose for the water line, I had enough give to pull the unit out about halfway. This exposed the pulleys and door hook, but the spring was still in the back (and had actually fallen off the frame and was now lying behind the frame on the floor. So a little back and forth and I was able to retrieve it. I hooked the link on the end and blindly and miraculously hooked the spring into it's hole on the frame. Since I had no room to work with the door open, I had to keep it closed which meant the spring was under full tension. This is where the drum stick came in. I pulled the spring forward with a pliers and shoved the drumstick in the loop on the spring and held the stick against the baseboard while I threaded the string around the pulleys and onto the door hook. I guess I could have tried a long screwdriver, but the drumstick was handy and the bulbous tip prevented the spring from sliding off
