Very simple and straight forward

When I ordered the new auger drum from this website, I noticed a video that explained how to install the item. When I received the new drum, I went to the website and found the video. All I did was to watch the video and do what the repairman did. I did get a little confused when I noticed that the auger in the video was metal, and mine was plastic. However, upon removing the pieces as shown in the video, it became clear that the new auger drum would fit the same way the broken one had fit. After that, it was a snap to put the pieces back together.

I looked at the parts diagram from partsselect.com and watched the short video. This was a huge help and made the installation of the new part actually easy. I removed the thermostat control panel from the top portion of the refrigerator side with a 1/4" nut driver and then removed the defrost control board with a philips head screwdriver. I then replaced the part and put everything back in place. The only problem I had was trying to get the thermostat control panel back onto the front clips.I would recommend partsselect.com to anyone. The icemaker is in a side by side refrigerator/freezer with an auger driven ice bin dispenser, so space was limited. I first removed the ice bin but I couldn't see the three nuts holding the icemaker in place. I removed the ice bin support bracket (under the icemaker) using a Phillips head screw driver. Now the bottom nut holding the icemaker in place was easily visible and I was able to determine the size of nut driver I needed to completely remove it. Then I felt for the location of the top two nuts, slipped the nut driver on and loosened them. I was able to lift the icemaker off the top two nuts without completely removing them. Using a flat head screw driver, I pushed down the white tab holding the wiring harness connection to the icemaker and removed the harness, freeing the ice maker for complete removal. I did not need to replace the wiring harness, so I simply reversed the whole process to install the new icemaker. I am a 61 year old female with rheumatoid & degenerative arthritis and found this installation really easy, with the one exception of snapping the wiring harness connection into the new icemaker - I didn't have the thumb strength. I had to wait for a relative to come and snap the wiring harness connector into place for me. I also had to use some snips to cut out the plastic tab (scored) for the water feed to the icemaker but was able to complete the entire installation within 30 minutes.

I did a Google Search for a 1998 Whirlpool ED22RF, looked for trouble Isolation procedures. Don't remember the web sites but two parts were mentioned namely the timer and the thermal relay. After making sure it was unplugged I removed the back lower insulation panel, removed the red wire from the relay located on the left side of the condenser and unplugged the relay. I examined it for physical damage before checking with an ohmmeter and found the thermal relay sounded like it was full of sand when I shook it. So we found PartSelect and searched for the thermal relay and found an exact picture with the part number and ordered the part. We received the $30 part 5 days later. Only took 15 minutes and two tools to install. Thank you for saving us a few hundred dollars.

Took it out and slipped the new one in.

Unplug the unit cord, remove 3 screws on the icemaker. Unhook the wiring harness from the refrigerator, remove the unit and reverse the order to install the new unit. Reinstall the on off bail, and the icemaker tray. Make sure that the unit is level after the new installation so that water does not spill out of the icemaker.

R and R parts

Removed the broken icemaker per instructions provided with the replacement part purchased. by Part Select. The whole procedure went very well and my new icemaker is working like a charm. I highly .recommend Part Select. Kitchenaid had discontinued making the the original icemaker and Part Select provide an OEM replacement that worked perfectly.

Used flat blade screwdriver to remove old guide by spreading the remaining top tabs. Inserted new guide and tipped the top forward to line up bottom tab in slot. Used screwdriver to push in tab. Once it was seated pressing in the top snapped the guide into place easily.

just remove the damaged one and replace with the new one---easy- breezy

Got Online to Parts Select put in the model number, selected from parts schematic, Ordered parts. Reviewed YouTube instructions supplied by Parts Select, Canadian service tech in video very knowledgeable about repair, followed his instruction and fixed the Ice maker. Very easy with Parts Select help.
